i got really caught up bad in last years snow, all shops run out of milk (even boxed and powdered!!!)
and everything closed down :( deliverys couldnt be made ect

so this year im going to stock up on some boxes of longlife milk (even if it doesnt snow this year, it will always come in handy as backup)

ive washed our gloves/mittens scarfs ect :) (DS may need a new hat, big head:) )and i have bought a sledge for ds .. so he can have some fun with that, also last year i noticed people using theyre sledges to put shopping on and taking it home :D better than carrying things and ending up on your bum on the ice :)

ill also be making sure the electric and gas is topped up, maybe put an extra pound or two on everyweek :)

got plenty of candles ect (im addicted to yankee candles so will be fine in a powercut, got a big collection )

got wellington boots, last years but still fitting and in good condition :)
will need to buy a pair of winter boots for DS soon too

gonna buy a few extra bits of tinned/dried food everynow and again and make sure i stock up the cupboards

    xx

Darkrev-- congratulations on your marriage! I hope it's a long happy one.

Not much new here-- supposed to frost overnight. There is a freeze warning in case one still has plants outside.

Made a trip to the grocer's today. Picked up 6 boxes instant oatmeal for OH (first of many trips for this item), 3 free canned (tinned) tomatoes and two more 12 packs of loo rolls (these are the large size rolls-- supposed to be the equivalent of 2 normal rolls--not sure I believe this though!) along with a few other bargains.

White at 6am here, not sure if it was hail or sleet.

OMG! It's chucking it down, blowing a gale & it's only 6 degrees.
What a difference 2 days make.

You can always just freeze normal milk. If it's Homogenized you just need to shake it before use. I always have milk in the freezer.

It took me far longer yesterday to put the wireing for the new Fridge. Problem is i'm a bit of a perfectionist so these things always take longer then expected as they have to look just right. It drives my wife bonkers.

Today will be clearing the larder out and reorganising. I'm also going to go into the loft and look out the winter blankets and air them if needed.

It was a bit Dreach when I took the dogs out first thing hopefully it may bighten up a little later so I can do some of the Garden prep that I have been failing at the past few days.

Hi Dizzybee and welcome to the thread :D I'm on the hunt for some living room curtains at the moment too although not very successfully so far!

Sent my application back for the job where I used to work and feeling very hopeful. My boss text me this morning to say that the application form was great and had just suggested a couple of changes. I did them and have sent it off to recruitment and got a reply a couple of minutes later.

Cold, windy and rain with hail here! I'm making a butternut squash stew for lunch (first time I've tried it) which should be lovely & warming. Hope everyone else is keeping warm & dry.
  • Morning all, a rather brisk windy and chilly morning here - still only 7 deg:eek:.

    Quick question ..

I've got my new brush thing for the front door - there are pre-drilled holes in the wood to fix it but .... I can't get the screws to go into the door (I've got arthritis in my hands so they're not very strong).

I'm reluctant to try to drill holes 1) as the screws are tiny and don't have a small enough bit for my drill and 2) probably more important - I'm not great with the drill and don't want to end up with a huge hole in the door!

    Any suggestions? TIA

Have you a screwdriver attachment for your drill?

If anyone is easily offended DIY wise by my cowboy tactics then please don't read any further :o:rotfl: This includes my DH who despairs of me but .....................

I would use small tacks and hammer it on as the tacks would go into the wood easily without too much effort from your hands :D

Edited to add: Just noticed that I've lost my 'newbie' sign whoo hoo!
