I'm Notts/Derbys border, and I haven't seen anything. However, one of our people at work just came in and asked if I had seen the great big black cloud that had passed over. He added that it was freezing underneath it.

Oh well the snow has arrived in the hills to the north of us (Glenshee)
http://www.ski-glenshee.co.uk/news/snow so winter is definately on its way to us now. This thread certainly keeps you focussed on what needs done and where to get the best bargains. Thats the flanelette sheets bought from dunelm today for all the beds, cost a small fortune, but since the ones I have were wedding presents over 25 years ago I cant complain. The old ones will be made into dusters or be put into the cloth bag to go to the recycling shop but at 50p a kilo its not much but will pay for a new hot water bottle LOL!Every days a School day!0 -
Havent been on for a while as I didnt have anything to report so have just been lurking but got behind with the thread so have managed to catch up now
Darkrev:TCongratulations and I hope you have a long and happy marriage
Frugal thats a great step forward - well done - be patient it will be worth it:D ETA oooops I see its tooooooooooo late - enjoy your fire - have you got the marshmallows too?:D
Lavandula good luck to you - due to ill health i had to give up work and the release from stress is amazing - there is def more to life - I hope you find a lovely new way of life xx
Oliver welcome to the thread - did you get an answer about your blackberry bush - what about leaf mulch - is that what you call it? any way layers of soggy leaves around the base and an old net curtain over the top of the bush will do a similar job as the garden fleec
gr.w.nv the thunsulate gloves look ok - have you thought about the USB fingerless gloves - someone on here mentioned them - you can get them on ebay - very toasty if you are on your pc a lot.
I am not sure if its just here in Scotland but Mr A has 10kg bag of salt for paths for £3 - I got 2 today - I had already bought a snow shovel but theirs looked good value.
was hunting for curtains and have seen a pair that will do -will be able to get them next week.
Sadly I have had to agree with some people who posted before and my friends from other threads that me using my open fire is not a good idea - I am gutted but it will affect me so I have to accept that - I am going to have it cleaned and checked and then will be able to use it on special occassions but not regularly. So now I need to find an electric heater to cover the fireplace.
It is wild and horrible wet storms here today and was only 6 degrees when I was out with my carer. NOT nice:eek:
hope everyone is cosying up at home - I am off to find another layer and not put the heating on!!
toots xPeace will be mine
could do better - must try harder
Live each day as if its your last

So snowing in Scotland but not in Notts. Please do tell when we get the first snow in England and/or Wales - the possibility of snow has been the topic of much conversation in the office but don't think we'll get any here for a while (London).
I bought some foil for my rads this afternoon. I was extravagant and bought the £9 including delivery option posted on another thread on this forum as it's more convenient for me than the poundshop option.0 -
Mr T have 1.5kg of strong white bread flour for 68p, its the one in the green packet. I have just ordered 3 for my stash;) HTH: DD1 23/11/09

Rsing - just a really quick thought - do you have an old, but clean, bin that you can put the food in? As long as the lid on it can shut down they won't be able to get through the thickness of it and even better if you drop the complete sack, unopened (it make take a bit of jiggling about but it will go in) in there it will keep it air, damproof and water tight!!
Just finished off some sewing, just a top of mine and sewing new velcro onto a hot water bottle cover. I'll tell you all what, I never knew how flipping hard it is to sew velcro on - what a job! Just have one more cover to do and I shall get that done tomorrow afternoon, then I can cross the 'sewing' job off my list of things to do.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Sunnyday - thanks for the tip re the gaiters - should save me a lot of trouser washing
Rising - I use an awl to start a hole for any screw or cup hook. I've got a proper one now but I used to use one of those 2 pronged corn on the cob forks with one prong bent back.
Toottifrooti - I've got an electric "wood-burning stove" in my fireplace. Even without the heater on I can turn on the flame effect lights - has a lovely cosy look. The fire brick, grate etc have been completely removed leaving a dark brick opening into which the fire has been pushed, so it doesn't take up any floor space but looks nice and cottagey.
If anyone is thinking of stocking up on cup-a-soup, Mr A has them for 50p down from £1-08.

:A I feel like an idiot now..... I've got a big outside plastic bin (always been used to store stuff, never as a bin) in the garage which is currently stuffed full of bags of emergency cat litter (I thought it would be kept damp free in there) ... the bag should fit in unopened:).
The cat litter can go in the other spare room as Mr Mischief won't be tempted by that!:DGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Hey preppers
My kindly neighbour helped me out today by getting rid of the (not live, thankfully) electrical cable that was left behind after the back boiler was removed... He has capped it off, just in case, and pushed it thru the wall so I can definately have a fire tonight even though the rest of the building work needs to be done. It won't look pretty but the flames will be cosy and cheer me up
Question please... I don't have a grate yet so I am wondering what I can use instead... Any ideas? I do have a pound shop disposable bbq which I could use and pop a log on top of it.... :rotfl: What do you think? Would that work? I don't need a big fire - I just want to have one
I really am too impatient to wait until the building works are finished0
