The wind is really blowing, even down here, now. Just popped out to leave chq for the coal merchant and i've come in, freezing :(

I cannot find my slippers either. Had them on last night and now they have vanished :( Found some fluffy socks instead and have whacked the heating right up! Wish the coal man would turn up as I have run out of coal and, as its my day off, and I have no kiddies around today, I am relaxing and having "me" time for a change and it would be nice if that included a fire to keep me toasty!

Going to have to go out and chop some wood today in the cold wind.... I have been buying sacks of logs this week and its cost me a fortune
Putting these winter preps here so I don't forget!

I've tried to keep the heating off today but it's the wrong day for it with the wind howling. The curtains will be drawn before dark tonight to try to capture the warmth and I have to duct tape the big gap down the patio doors. I should have done that before now but I've only remembered it now I can hear the whistling. The only thing is it looks unsightly in my dining room :(

I've stuffed fleece blanket at front door to stop the draughts under there. DH stuck the tape around the door but it's only solved half the problem. We have damp coming through our bay window now as have turned the gas guzzling small radiator off in favour of thick curtains and a 750W elect thermo controlled radiator. Much toastier in there on a night and believe it or not, cheaper than the gas rad but the downside is the freezing damp bay window behind the curtains. May have to look into getting curtains to go around the window instead of across it. Shudder at the expense

We have been given a thick duvet like mattress protector from my mother in law as she bought it for her caravan but didn't use it. That makes the bed a much toastier place to be once warmed up. Also pulled the blankets out for childrens beds and we lie (DH, I and the dog) under a huge throw that mother in law was throwing out. That's lovely, very ugly and chintzy but lovely to lie under watching the box.

Children have wellies, warm coats, snow boots, snow trousers etc so don't need to worry about heir warmth. A bit worried about my as my coat really isn't up to scratch in the rain but very warm should it not.

DH has been given workwear thermals so that's good. Need some thicker socks for him though.

Must get but really can't afford.... argh!! IS a snow shovel. My garden spade it is for another year then :(

I know we don't do a lot of pics on here (I have made it small so hopefully won't cause problems for anyone) but ........ was looking for wee cat when I noticed my throw in a heap on the sofa

Think she's trying to let us all know something?

She has now retreated even further under cover and there is hardly any sign of her now (apart from the big bump in the middle of the heap)

ETA: this may just be the kick I need to get finished!

I've just started crocheting a coat for my dog. Our pets can really tuck at our heart strings can't they!

Here's one I made earlier :rotfl::rotfl: This was last year, that lid is a 5ft tall wooden coal box.

Good news: Hubby found the window quilts in the loft for me:T
Bad news: a mouse/mice have gone through the box and all 8 quilts:mad:
The top 2 have been munched big time and I'm guessing taken for bedding somewhere, they really liked the fleece so I guess they're prepared for winter too now ;)

By time I try and repair them and make them look presentable as they're for the front of the house I think it would be easier and quicker to make new ones. I can salvage most of the fleeces but need new vapour barriers and a few charity shop white sheets as backing.
On a plus point it does mean I can make minor improvements but next year they are going at the bottom of my wardrobe.

    Hi everyone,

Good day to get laundry done with all this wind eh?
Think im getting relative strain from peeling apples... Woke 6 times last night with pins and needles in my hands. Thanks whatnot I changed to to flannel sheets so we were nice and warm, else I know I wouldn't have got back to sleep.
