 I am having withdrawal symptoms!

Where IS everybody? No posts since yesterday tea time!

i know what you mean frugal, i keep checking back and there's nothing new :(

still waiting for my dehumidifier to arrive, it was supposed to come yesterday, i got the cake stand i ordered at the same time but not the dehumidifier!

anyway the relative humidity has dropped by 10% now that the clothes are finally dry but it's still at 65% which, according to some googling is at least 15% too high. it'll be interesting to see how much humidity the thing draws out when it finally does arrive.

i also took down the bubble wrap from the bedroom windows and i've decided to not replace it again til it gets really cold, we didn't notice a huge difference in temps from the night before and today after i removed them, probably since it is so mild outside. however both sets of bubblewrap had condensation on them so i won't put them up again til i really need them and til the dehumidifier has done it's job.
  • I have actually started a diary on Debt free saving board, well I hope that is where I have put it, so many boards its confusing.

I still have not done that door curtain, nor stuffed the draught excluder which I made in October. I must get on knitting as bought a doll for granddaughter ( 2) for Christmas and the poor thing only has her bathing costume so want to make some outfits for her, also have to knit another hat for said granddaughter, as her mum liked one of the ones I made for her earlier this month that she wants another exactly the same. Not easy to get the enthusiastic for hats as its so mild and sunny. Grass cut last Thursday but sadly going to have to pay to have it cut again as grown 2ins since then, gardener is happy means his income stays up as he struggles during the winter months and he has two young children to support so cannot be mean and not get it cut.

Waiting for person from Raise ( a benefit advice place ) to come out and help me fill in ESA form. I hope they come handy as hubby only working this morning and as I feel up to it I want to go and order my compost and top soil for my vegetable beds in spring so if I lose my benefits I have them in. Gardener going to come next week and dig up lawn for beds so if it ever gets cold nature will break down soil and they will be ready just for me to add the compost and top soil. I want him to remove the grass carefully so I can transplant the turf into back garden. Costs £5 for garden centre to deliver whatever you want, and worth it as our little car can manage about 3 sacks only.

Spending to much time reading all the threads on the forum, have subscribed to 61 so far and rising, if I read every one I never would do anything else :)

Does anyone know how to make the dining room warmer, it has radiator but has 3 full size patio doors (only one opens in the middle ) but it is freezing in the winter and like a greenhouse in the summer (opening the middle section obviously helps) it is just bitter in here in the winter, radiator on and all:D

Someone said to keep the curtains drawn but it makes it so dark

  • Could you put up with bubblewrap over the glass for the winter, will mean you cannot see out properly but will still let the light in. Helps keep the heat in.

Ido have full length curtains and vertical blinds, have sat here with them closed but it is far too dark and sort of needs the light on to see the computer keyboard so defeats the MSE idea of putting on a light in the day:rotfl::D

Will give the bubble wrap a go have some in the shed, will take a lot to do though as there are 3 doors ....

Note to self...WRITE ON THE BOX NEXT YEAR!!!

Extra note to self..........CLEAR OUT THE LOFT!!!!

I`m still here, it`s like limbo at the moment, kind of waiting for something to happen. Bloomin hopeless re getting washing dry though, it`s a deceptively dry day but the outdoor humidity sensor is saying 88% . It need to get down to 70ish at least, otherwise its not worth the effort of getting the lines up. I`ve got dh doing a couple of jobs, revamping wooden planters into taller ones that hold more compost= less watering in future, then I am sending him out on the bus to change all my euros into £££. No point in hanging onto them any more, it`s only going from bad to worse and I can`t see us going abroad anyway

pixie, you still at it!! I am going to re-vamp my crochet skills as it is easier on the hands. I get pins and needles these days if I knit too much. I`ve got a lovely stash of pure wools to use, maybe scarves for all next year

:A Awwww how thoughtful you are, Kittie :) Should we order what colour we would like or will you surprise us? Are you limiting it to posters or will lurkers receive a scarf too? ;)

    :D

So, re this humidity thing, my phone's weather app says what the humidity is and i've never taken any notice before - I wonder if I might have a look for some sort of weather/humidity station for the house. Any recommendations anyone?

Also, do barometers work? I sometimes see them when I am out and about with work but I have no idea about them.

ETA - oooh well my previous post certainly got everyone talking again :D Yayyy :j

Still trying to accommodate the last few tins that cannot be shoehorned into the pantry!

Hmm, was cooking last night and noticed a distinct gap in the cupboard, need to fill it :D
A smile costs little but creates much :)
  • There are only a few.....those are the ones getting used first :D

Ooooh scarves all round......could I have one in variagated purple, please? Preferably in acrylic though (I'm a cheap date, me ;) ) as pure wool makes me itch. So kind, so generous :D

you forgot to add to the list:

do ebay listings with all the carp from the loft
do carboot with all the stuff that didn't sell on ebay from the carp in the loft

    :p sorry i couldn't resist!

i'm not allowed access to the loft in my rented flat, therefore everytime we do a big clean prior to a flat inspection we clear out stuff and send it off to charity shops etc... mind you if we did have a loft space methinks i may have the same issue as you do!
