I have decided to start my Winter preparations properly today. I need to stock up on tins and frozen food in case we are snowed in for a long time again.

Has anyone here tried putting cling film over single glazed windows? The back of our house is single glazed and it is like a freezer there. I have had the dehumidifier on all week which warms it up a bit and is helping to get the washing dry. But I am aware that as it is so cold it is probably costing more to run than is necessary. prepareathome your loft unit sounds fascinating. I haven't looked into how much it costs but I think it would be a useful addition to most homes as condensation is such a problem.

We haven't put heating on yet as we still don't have any oil but the wood burner is now being lit at around lunch time each day. At 60p a litre we will have to wait and hope it comes down in price. It isn't being prepared for Winter at all not having any oil :(

  • I love all the lists published here, everyone of them always points out something I haven't done, thanks

Got to sort out what I must still do - like putting that curtain up over the front door, I have been holding off I know as door as it needs replacing, but with living in a conservation area I have to have style agreed with planning dept so been hoping they would get back to me by now, but alas no so curtain must go up and bubble wrap on the glass. Now what else, toddles off looking.

    Also, Girls boots (sizes 10(small)- 2 and a half) - £8.99.

Cant find any boys boots though?

Also, kids winter jackets, boys and girls, ages 6-12 for £9.99

I've got the version from Wickes, new home so can't compare to the same building last year, however it has cut down considerably on condensation (=heat transfer to glass and outside). So for £6-7, I'm happy!

I've got a little stash of tins and dried veg, as well as a newly full freezer. I don't each much tinned stuff so a bit lost as to what to get. Got a load of cheap bottled water in the outbuilding just in case. Have found my tealight stash, and put them with my lighter stash, but can't find my wind-up torch yet.
    What else was there....?
Probably wise to get another LGP canister...
Ooo I need to sew a sturdy cover for my cast iron pot lid (who needs a hot water bottle when you can have a slab of metal!)

 I am having withdrawal symptoms!

Where IS everybody? No posts since yesterday tea time!
  • I am here :D

Still trying to accommodate the last few tins that cannot be shoehorned into the pantry!
Also more into "not wasting food" and trying to knit with ruffle yarn....which, if it succeeds, will be a scarf for an xmas pressie.

Mardywotsit - you liked my name for you - I feel like I have "arrived" :D:D:D
  • I`m still here, it`s like limbo at the moment, kind of waiting for something to happen. Bloomin hopeless re getting washing dry though, it`s a deceptively dry day but the outdoor humidity sensor is saying 88% . It need to get down to 70ish at least, otherwise its not worth the effort of getting the lines up. I`ve got dh doing a couple of jobs, revamping wooden planters into taller ones that hold more compost= less watering in future, then I am sending him out on the bus to change all my euros into £££. No point in hanging onto them any more, it`s only going from bad to worse and I can`t see us going abroad anyway

pixie, you still at it!! I am going to re-vamp my crochet skills as it is easier on the hands. I get pins and needles these days if I knit too much. I`ve got a lovely stash of pure wools to use, maybe scarves for all next year
