I bought snow boots from Lidl last week for my son - they were £9.99 and are really good quality. They also had adults sizes, kicking myself for not buying myself a pair now.Debt free and saving :j0

singlestep, stocking up medicine is a very good idea! Maybe it's a bit TMI but I suggest everyone get some cystitis sachets, if you've had it you know how painful it can be and dangerous if you don't treat it fast. This happened to me last year and I ended up with a nasty kidney infection in february and I was out of action for 2-3 weeks.
Ouch - good reminder - I haven't had it for years but def worth getting some in.miss_corerupted wrote: »when i get cystitis i just have a bicarb of soda in water for a few times a day, much cheaper and works. the main ingredient in all the treatments is just bicarb
tastes yucky mind you i just down a glass of it i have infections all the time as i have 3 kidneys lol (1 normal and 1 duplex)
ahaaa thanks for that - I always have bicarb in and don't have heart problems (except for the emotional kind!). How much do you put in a glass of water? half tsp/full tsp?
Took DDs out wombling (love that word!) for wood today - got a fair bit so its in the shed waiting to dry out a bit and for anything to crawl out of the pile  We saw lots of squirrels gathering nuts/chestnuts and had a lovely time - must do it more often.
I don't know how I am going to keep on top of the woodcutting when we are having wet weather/snow etc... I can only cut up one pallet at a time before my back groans so am thinking about asking someone from LETS to come and cut a load for me to chuck in the shed for when I can't get out to cut it myself.
Its really foggy here tonight - not as bad as my days in the midlands, but worse than I have seen round here for a long time. A spell of bad weather will give me the kick up the rear that I need to finish my winter preps! (and will get this thread going properly again)
:D:D

People with heart problems should NOT try this method.
Indeed it is similar, but not the same. I tried it once and it made me throw up all the water I was trying to drink. When a course of sachets or a big bottle of liquid is <£1 it's not worth it to me.
Checking amazon for cystitis cures I found you can buy.... a canvas print of an illustration of a bladder with cystitis. Why?
Best cure I have ever found for it was Cranberry Juice - the fresh stuff in the chiller cabinet Ocean Spray. Lovely taste and it sorts the problem out quickly.
Just clearing the leaves away for us pretty much now. We have a lovely cherry tree in the front garden, but it has big leaves on it and they have all turned and are slowly coming down. I swept up a load from round by the front door today and washed down the front door step as well. DH is going to get the leaf sucker out again tomorrow to get the rest up off the front lawn. I have my car to get cleaned - it is really quite dirty I am ashamed to say so that is a Tuesday afternoon job I think.
I still need to get some milk to put in the freezer but at present the freezer is quite full so I shall leave that for another week. They said on the news this morning that it is set to turn colder later on this week with more frosts.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

hi everyone,
thanks for the reminder re cystitis... i'll get a carton of cranberry in and put a 'reserved' sticker on it! i've never had need of the sachets, but then i never knew it could be so dangerous. so i'll get some of those in too. do i need a chemist for that? or does poundland or wilkinsons do them?
~ had to put hot water bottles in the bed for first time last night. and slept very well because of it i think.
~ woodburner is keeping dining room nice and warm, living room ok. (began watching 7 Years in Tebit last night, 3 hours later it finished, i was frozen, but also deeply moved and rather emotional. i recomend it, but put the heating on first!)
~ made soup from the Slow Cooker chicken remenants. nom.
~ think i've persuaded OH that we really do need curtains in the living room... it's so cold by our bay window.Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Thanks SD and Adelight.
I will keep an eye out for Lidls, and also have a look in Wilkos.
Do they both do kids sizes too do you know?
My local Lidl have kids ones at 6.99 and adult (purple, red or grey) at 9.99 at the mo. They are the fleecy lined ones. Got my daughter (adult sized feet) some leopard print ones  at Matalan for 9.99 a couple of weeks ago.0 -
Hi all.
Where do you all buy your wellies from? i used to buy them from Clarkes, but cant afford it this year.
Cleggie, Cotton Traders have some snow boot/welli's on half price at the moment, down from about £45 odd pounds to £24 I think, I bought a pair and my feet are sooooo toastie.:TThriftkitten

Oh on the subject of buying in medicines - I mentioned that I wanted lemsip/beechams drinks and tablets to my mother yesterday, and was shocked when she tried to get me to buy them from Boots!!
Most of you probably already know this, but just in case, the stuff that sells from £3 plus in mainstream chemists can be found in pound shops. You have to look around though - my local one had the 5 sachet and 10 sachet boxes, both for £1 each lol.0 -
Evening all, a little random I know, but was so excited I had to share, I have been nursing a xmas flowering cactus for about 10 months now and although it's been doing excellent I was always worried I may kill it as Im not very green fingered when it comes to plants.. Anyway I just had to report that it has now started flowering Yayyyyyyy!!!!!! I'm thrilled and feel like patting myself on the back for nurturing it into it's first flowering time!!!
I have been very careful not to move it about and it has sat quite happy on top of my piano in the livingroom for 10 months....
Ok go on...... Someone burst my bubble by telling me they are virtually un killable, my mums is very temperamental and although it flowers the leaves are very thin and un spongey compared to mine hahaha One up on mum for a change!!!:rotfl:

I have seen the sachets in various shops including the 99p shop.
Keep talking about the wood burner love to hear about it - am thinking of bringing my electric one up here, although at moment no wall space except under window in front of radiator, as up here so much and I lie and pretend its a real one.
I made chicken soup in SC yesterday and we had that as main meal with pasta and bread yesterday then had rest today followed by the chicken from it done in a rich sauce ( nothing fancy just plain bisto powder and a tin of tomatoes, its amazing how rich it is) with potatoes and onions,
Curtains do seem to make a room feel warmer even if windows are well sealed, glad you will be getting some.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch
