Preparing for winter III

LOL!
No, it isn't that - I had a hot fire last night and its still 17c in here - def wasn't that outside this morning!!!
Still puzzled.
This has come up before and someone said it was because your windows were keeping the heat in - ie they were working. This made sense to me as my new lean to greenhouse, which is made of double glazed polycarbonate, gets condensation on the outside and that is definitely warmer inside than outside.
I get it on my front windows too. It's a good sign I think rather than a bad one."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Ok...so how many of are rich OAPs.....and which one of you is going to give me their winter fuel allowance?:rotfl:Normal people worry me.0

I must admit I was a tad relieved to get the letter today
been wondering whether the axe would fall on it again
I've decided that if I need to cut back any more the tv and licence will go. I've enough dvds here to watch them back to back for several months without repeats and most of what I watch is repeats anyway... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

My neighbour uses about a kilo per evening and I use 2 kilos per evening  But I do like it to really kick out the heat!!!
Our local coal merchant has a minimum delivery of 6 x 25k bags so probably check with them and get the minimum if delivery is free. We pay £7.25 per bag of smokeless. Much cheaper than the £6 per £10 kilos I was paying at the garage
Hope that helps.
Thats about right actually. We bought all our stock in throughout the summer months and got it on discounted price of £6.00 for 25kg. We bought a whacking great coal bunker and I mean it is massive, it's wendy house sizedbut it all goes in there and it lasts us right round until the late Spring with a bit over. We use the coal for the heat and the wood for the flame - probably mentioned that before. It's about fourteen bags we get in and they come and tip the lot in the bunker. It's called a Titan and takes about 600 kilos of coal. We just got the biggest one we could find, it about just over half to three quarters fills it.
Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Thanks for trying to help girls. Silly thing is from the inside they are not too bad (will be better when the ugly moulding they put on is taken off. Blinds due to go back up in both rooms this weekend but they do not fit properly now as the windows are mysteriously a different size (bays) so I'll need to find some sort of ribbon/edging for the roman blinds. Not sure what can be done with the wooden slated ones for DH office. It is the outside I find most offensive. Kitchen one we will have to replace all over again as not only is it the ugliest window ever but the wood in the middle is so thick and right in my eye line that I kid you not I cannot see out without standing on tip toes or bending my knees.
Still need to get things into perspective as the friend I was at IKEA with today has had some bad health news so I need to count my blessings.
I got the wire and fleece blankets at IKEA so hope my plan works - £15 for hung warm curtains will be good. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Thats great, thanks. I was thinking about 5 bags so if the minimum is 6 that would be fine. I think you must be further north than me at that price, think ours is going to be around £9 a bag for Homefire.
I am in the SouthShop around if you can

ahhh ok - that makes more sense - the windows are only a couple of years old so should be efficient.
Bit annoying though.0 -

You would also be able to watch things on iplayer and the like, just not live TV. Not much of a lost IMHO, just need to convince the rest of the family.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

I think you still need a TVL to use iplayer as its BBC but not for the other channels.
