Preparing for winter III

whoo hoo my wintertrax arrived today!
Mine too! It's going to be such a timesaver as the winter sun is too low to shine on my part of the street during winter and I was forever missing trains because I couldn't keep my balance on the ice. I'm going to give a pair to my mother and she can either keep them or give them to somebody else in the family. I hope she does keep them - she's not yet in her 60s but she's already had one hip replaced.
I got some freezer bags and tin foil containers on the way home as I've been running low on those and on other containers in which to store things. Thanks for the reminder about the weather - I've now remembered to to book my delivery slot for all the heavy items I want to have a stock of (the poor delivery drivers have had some sort of misforune with the shopping any time they've had to deliver in bad weather).0 -

It's all well and good stocking up my freezer (which I have been) but what if we have a power cut and it all deforsts? I guess it's just a risk we have to take. am getting plenty of tinned and dried goods in too but I'm just worried about powercuts, why I'm not sure as we rarely have them and if we do it is only for an hour or so.
a lot of freezers are fine for up to 24 hours if you don't open the door, however if we do get a powercut this winter chances are it may be cold enough outside to shift things out there should the cut last for an extended period of time.0 -

Our last power cut lasted 6 days in the middle of the snow and ice two years back.
We have had a good few since - but none more then 12-18 hrs
Since then the freezer has a couple of days supplies and thats it. My store cupboard is my standby - pasta, soup mix, pulses, tinned fish and meats0 -
grn.w.nv - Rising is right I was going to suggest a horseboxto load up (I have done this a few times, been able to get a bout 20 odd bales in there which is a boon. If I lived nearer to you I would do it for you no problem as we both past our tests prior to 1997, but the horsebox is the best way to do it.
I might have mentioned it before but our hay store is bang full at the mo and with our two they will much through one of those a day as well, plus their hard feed and hayledge (greedy toads).
Forgot to add you could get some tarpaulin and put down as a base, stand the hay on that and then get the rest of the tarpaulin and chck that over the top and weight it down either with bricks or wooden posts maybe both, you just need to keep it dry.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Good evening everyone & I hope that you are all ok?
My DD was back from her holiday in Cyprus last night & she's just been down for her tea and to have a catch up. I love seeing her and miss her (she shares a flat with a friend in the same town) now she doesn't live at home. My DS1 will be away to Uni this time next year so I'm sure that empty nest syndrome will set in big style then
Winter prep today has only involved doing a stock take in the freezer. Pretty handy actually as I was able to pull a soup, whoopsied bread and crumble out for tea tonight. I chopped some never going to ripen in this century plums, threw them into a dish with cinnamon & sugar and topped with the crumble so a tasty & :money: tea.
Good news I have an interview on Thursday at 11am :T Also got a phone call from my ex boss asking me if I'd be interested in another position with the company working on a new contract which is 5 years long. I said yes and have an application form to complete. I'll go into the office for him to have a scan over it this week before submitting before the closing date next Monday. Nothing for 4 months then 2 come along at once! You must all have brought me some luck :A0 -
