Has anyone seen/heard from Alice Mary at all she was a regular not so long back but hasn't posted in a while. Just wondering how her preps are going

Hi, I am here but as I am back at school I haven't really had the time to read much, let alone post anything (until I saw that you asked after me :A)! We have hit the floor at a sprint at school, with exams being taken already so not much time for winter prep either..

However... I now have a beautiful new bathroom roof that slopes towards the gutter :j, unlike the previous one that had a lip all the way around the outside so filled up like a paddling pool ! I guess I could call my recent failed car MOT a kind of prep too as it means 4 new tyres, a new exhaust and safer suspension which will all be appreciated here in the land of pot-holes, when the colder weather hits!

I hope you are doing well Rainy Days and that your preps and everyone elses are coming along nicely,

    Alice

  • We used cat litter last year when the salt ran out! It made the most awful mess. The driveway and our house was covered in white yuck that took ages to get out of everything. My gut feeling would be if you're going to stock pile anything, get salt first and only turn to the cat litter as a last resort (although maybe different types are better for this, we used T3scos own).

Thank you for the good luck wishes :A

I've been wondering tonight about making the foil covered thingies for putting behind the radiators. Does it make a noticeable difference to the heat put out by the radiator in the room do you think? I've read how to do it on this thread and have a couple of sturdy boxes and a decent supply of foil so it wouldn't cost to make them. Any thoughts would be very much appreciated :)

Going into town tomorrow and will be having a trawl through the charity shops for some suitable curtains for the living room - hopefully!

Edited to add: I had an extra couple of bags of cat litter on the shopping list but having read about the mess don't think I'll get any. The mess our cats (we have 4 of them) can make around the litter tray is enough!

    Morning peeps

typical autumn morning here today, cool and sunny, the inside temp is 21 degrees but the outside is only 8, compared with the last few days thats pretty cool.

The forecast today says that that it should remain dry and not get above 16 degrees so if that really does happen then its good as i need to get some more garden prep done.

I have pots all over the place waiting to be emptied into the composters and i`m going to sort out the rest of the greenhouse and maybe even plant some winter salad. Its been far too hot to venture into the garden much and i`ve also been arriving home from work worn out due to the heat so i`m actually looking forward to it being a little bit cooler - not TOO much though lol.

If i can get the back garden prep mostly finished today than i shall be happy, various errands to run too so fingers crossed.

ScottishOstrich & MaxSusie - I wish you both tons of good luck! My fingers are crossed for you x
