Thanks for all the lovely comments about the throw - blushing madly!:o.
Very easy (only plain knit) so anyone could do one ...... I had started it before my op, but it was only maybe a foot long and the rest has been done since op. (Not a lot else to do when I've to sit with my foot elevated all the time!)Rising I avoid lactose due a digestive problem, and I buy 'Arla' lactosefree milk. I buy the fresh and keep a few litre cartons of the long life for emergencies. I prefer skimmed but they only do the semi or full fat, however it tastes nice. It's not the cheapest milk, however Asda and Tesco have both had offers on it fairly regularly so I stock up then.
Thanks Suzi, I've not tried that one & will have a look when I'm out and about again.....Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250

My TD has decided to go on the blink, this could be not very good for the winter! I'm hoping DP can fix it. It's dry today (unlike yesterday) so I pegged the first load out at 5am. Going to put the clothes horses in the garden so I can dry more.
Another one while we are on the subject of pets is cat litter, we don't have cats but I know locals were buying up supplies to use in the snow last year.
UHT milk I can't remember it's name but I get one from home bargains and my son will have it on cereals etc
All the cars have their snow boots on, I'm on the hunt for some folding snow shovels for the car and a freezer for my shed (cheap or free) see what I can findOne day I might be more organised...........

Hi all preppers, just wanted to say thanks to all that post, really am grateful. Been very poorly and relied on my winter supplies oh my I was soo glad we had stocked up as I was unable to do anything.!
Also I re- read the thread which was lovely, really was nice to be able to read about what everyone was doing.
I have suffered from constant sinus infctns for nearly 3 years, since feb this yr gp has tried to sort me out (before they just kinda dished out meds) Anyhow I got worse and worse, affecting my balance, pressure in head constantly making me sick and dizzy and suffered a couple fits from pressure. TODAY is my appt with ENT consultant to discuss surgery, my recent mri showed every one of my 'tubes' are inflammed blocked and infected, also have some kinda blockage that needs to be removed,,cyst maybe or polyps not sure. I think i had a virus ontop of another infctn it left me in bed for over a week BUT am feeling better (thanks to steroids, dizzy tablets and painkillers) it just masks it but i can function for now!
TUGRIN didnt u mention sinus pain? My face is so painful,,all swollen and puffyhope u are feeling better now.
Felt great yesterday, hubby was off this weekend first in weeks, we sorted and de junked summer house (sounds nice but ius a huge shed full of camping stuff bikes and paint I hate it, new bike shed being saved for!)
DH got me 2 waterproof tarpalin thingys, one is plastic one is thickwaterproof material,,he also got this other stuff which he said is the most waterproof,,SO all this was for my rabbit winter prep! Put the various sheets of tarps over hutch, also lined inside of upper hutch with old wipe clean table cloth so will be much easier to clean, they dont make too much mess up there anyhow and bottom is a liftout cleanable tray.
TUGRIN I havent bought a rabbit coat I will just cuddle the rabbits! LOL The kids bring them in to watch cartoons, with assorted snacks!! Kids have popcorn, buns have treats they all sit on couch watching tv!!
We also sorted out wood pile,dh cut some kindling so bring on a fire, mentioned before fire was out of action last yr (chimney being repaired) cannot wait to light it! Made some leek and pot soup for freezer, will make more chutney later have 4 large jars from last yr, have 12 pots of jams made ready for xmas pressies. Gonna have a go at making yoghurt later this week, am on dukan diet starting this week, and carrying on forever I hope! My winter insulation needs to come off am so uncomfortable!! Need to lose a stone and half maybe 2.
OH my sorry for essay, really need to see another human soon!! Thanks for listening have a great week allLife happens when you are busy making other plans

Gorgeous throw Rising:)
I'm having a brain fart day! I can't remember anything anyone said:embarasseTry to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
I watched the Countryfile weather forecast and it all seems to go downhil from Wednesday onwards really. Frosts in the North which will also affect the South by Friday and a massive drop in temperatures.
I would suggest if you have anything that needs to be done outside it is dealt with by Wednesday - washing etc!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Just dipping my toe into this thread so Hi everyone. A little background for you I'm a full time carer for ny disabled wife (though I do do some consulting work from home)
I have over the past couple of years been tightening my belt and strangely find I enjoy all the prep and feel so good when I have managed to save in some way be it Old style or witha bargain
I am preping for winter at the moment I was a little under prepared last year.
Another one while we are on the subject of pets is cat litter, we don't have cats but I know locals were buying up supplies to use in the snow last year.
I have recently stocked up on Salt from a local wholesaler. We have wheelchair ramps that trurn into ice slides if we are not careful
i'm at the moment trying to find some heavy curtains to put up at the front and back doors. Ive just put the curtain rails up but the curtains I have arent really heavy enough. Tried the charity shops but no luck yet,'The More I know about people the Better I like my Dog'

Good Morning!
LOVE the new thread; the other was getting a little long...
Not much prep gone on over weekend. Although after 'freezer gate' I have ordered another one from a website I have used before. Again through Quidco with free del. It's coming in a couple of weeks which is fine. Plan on hitting Costc* with avengence once it is here.
Weather is rubbish here, weekend was cold and damp. Sun out this morning but there is a nip in the air. Tree in garden has most of the leaves off and all the berries have been stripped by the birds.
Really need to tidy pantry as the stock piling is out of control and I can hardly get in door. Organisation is needed asap.
Need to input my meter readings on web. We pay a fixed DD every month but are never anywhere near the payment so have a big credit balance. Is it worth asking for a refund or using it to pay for winters fuel usage?
Hello to all the newbies; nice to 'see' so many new faces on here.:A
Have a great day everyone. Bring on the winter -I AM READY!!0 -
can anyone recommend a good brand of UHT milk? Or any brands I should avoid? I'd like to get some in for the winter stores but no idea where to start!
not sure about brands but i would recommend that if you normally buy skim milk get semi skim, if you normally buy semi buy whole milk if you normally buy whole milk well you'll have to buy whole uht
the reason i say this is that the creamier you buy uht milk the more palatable it becomes, in my experience also be sure to get true UHT vs sterilized milk, i've found that no matter what level of fat i buy with the sterilized stuff it doesn't taste as good as proper uht milk... at asda their sterilized stuff is in the little plastic bottles vs the tetra packs
i realise it is probably all sterilised but the stuff i'm talking about is listed specifically as being sterilised milk vs uht if that makes any sense0 -
Thanks Suzi, I've not tried that one & will have a look when I'm out and about again.....
It's easy to recognise as it has a large cow all over the packaging!Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0
