  • Did you keep the flap part? You can drill holes in the top and fix it back on with plastic ties. I had a big cat who often broke cat flaps (could have done with a dog flap the size of him!) and in the end thats what happened to mine.

The flap is broken in half, tried gluing it but it didn't work!

Just been down to Asda and bought 2 red fleece throws for £5.90 something. I could'nt find any curtains for my kitchen window as its only a 36" drop but 72" wide. I've a venitian blind at the window and just needed something for the winter to keep the heat in. I've snipped the corners and threaded some curtain wire through the channel on them. Put a couple of screws in the window frame and thats another job off the list.
  • Had an email from cotton traders (since I bought boots from them!) & they've got a longer fleece lined coat half price at £30 at the moment http://www.cottontraders.co.uk/invt/ad10662?promo_set=jhxs&utm_campaign=9718742&utm_content=82820101120&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Emailvision It's not massively long, but longer than many! I'm not sure if it's waterproof though, so am resisting it for now...

Thank you. Will have a look. I'm currently [STRIKE]hiding[/STRIKE] taking a break from a mountain of work I've brought home, and it's only my first day back after last week off. It's amazing just how much of a difference that week makes at this time of year. It didn't get light until well in to my journey to work this morning. Definitely need the sunrise alarm clock.

Can anyone help me with the best place to get flannelette/ brushed flat sheets for a king size bed?

I got one from John Lewis a few weeks ago and it's great quality.

I just checked their website and some colours are out of stock already:eek: but king size is still available in some colours (and hopefully they'll get more of the others back in). HTH

Thanks RFTA, the ready Scotland site has some very useful information, which is presented in a very clear format. Even though I'm in Yorkshire I'm going to read it very thoroughly.

Yup, I'm quite impressed with it too (haven't read all the way through yet) - and think it'll be especially useful for those who don't use a site like this / aren't "seasoned preparers".

It has reminded me that I really need to get a battery/wind up radio ....:o

I do have a pretty good emergency evacuation plan - I can be a bit of a pessimist at times so it gets updated every so often:o.

The only trouble is that since I downsized my car, I'd really struggle to fit all my essentials in - let along the "would likes"!:) (the dog takes 3/4 the back seat, the other 1/4 with one cat and the other cat in the front - then there's the litter tray, litter, dog & cat food - and that's before I've got anything of mine in! - the boot's teeeeeeeny)
    Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
    2016 Sell: £125/£250
    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!

Just taken the dogs down to the garden (its about 30 metres from the house down a shared track) with my new very swanky head torch which arrived today and I can honestly say that I am chuffed!! Its fab with a really good beam all the way down the track and means I have both hands to do other things with - one is now needed for the old girl who suddenly went blind in her one remaining eye 10 days ago and the other for the young 'un who needs to be on a lead or will runa away. The middle-y (old girls son) who has been blind for about a year is fine on is own as he knows the way and as long as he can hear me is happy to follow.
I wish I'd got one of these torches ages ago - still thats what we are on here for isnt it - thinkin about how to make our lives a bit easier and more organised in these ever more dark days.
Just about finished tidying the garden to a well-Im-leaving-it-undisturbed-for-the-wildlife sort of standard that I can live with so if tomorrows weather is as bad as predicted then its batch cooking time!

A friend of mine has this or something close: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Duronic-Hybrid-Radio-Wind-Up-Rechargeable/dp/B002D9FKDS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319484959&sr=8-1

It was bought after 16 hours stranded in a car last December but has been really useful - e.g. camping and walking.

This sheet is the very same that I have just put on my bed and they are very soft and wonderful quality. I also have some from last year which dyed a warm red colour and they have worn and washed well too:T:T:T
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I like your style!!! I think I will adopt the same approach to my garden - I will mow it but leave the beds until spring :D It really is better for the wildlife as they have hibernation areas :D

In any case, I am scared of gardening since I found the false widow spider  I will NEVER garden without gloves again, not that I do often anyway...
  • Thanks for reminding me about the garden. I think I'll do just one hedge trim and one lawn cut, a good sweep up of leaves and leave it at that. i've got loads of baby birds living in my hedge so I don't want to disturb them too much.

I tried to get dd some slipper socks/fluffy socks today and couldnt find any so going to look online. she moved up a sock size the other week so all her warm socks are chucked. After saying that I've had to go and take her quilt off her as she's sweating there!

Very windy here today, it's been extra cold I think.

    HI everybody,

Have fleeced my front door curtain to the bewilderment of my husband!! bubble wrapped back window in living room much to disgust of DS - BUT - has already made a difference.

Can anyone suggest a bubble wrap type solution to front windows which is not obvious? bubble wrap is a little obvious,,,lol.

DD has already picked her theme for her birthday party - and chose a different colour because it was cheaper - she asked me to work it out on calculator!! Helloooo she is only 8 at Christmas,,,,teach them early..lol

    Thanks
