Fish10012 - I am in exactly the same boat - but because my policy was sold 14 days before RCI (formerly RFS) became regulated apparently I can't do anything.
I have been in touch with the Ombudsman who can't help.

If anyone has any better luck please get in touch.

You cannot get around it, there is no magic wand, if it was pre-regulation by 1 minute, 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week whatever then regulations after the sale are irrelevant I'm afraid

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Are there any updates from claiming back PPI from RFS Ltd ?
  • The paperwork being ambiguous could work in your favour too

I purchased a Clio back in 2002, annoyingly I can find no paperwork. I believe I got rid of it all in a clear out a number of years back (I know...hindsight...etc). How would I even confirm that I had PPI with RFS (now RCI)? Let alone initiate a complaint regarding the mis-selling (I vaguely recall turning down payment protection).

Am I basically out of luck? Should I just keep any and all paperwork for the rest of my life going forward, just in case?
  • Hi everyone

I'm similar circs to a lot on here, apart from the fact I have zero paperwork / account details

Is it worth me chasing this up?

Bought car from Arnold Clark Leyland in 2003, PPI was missold by staff there

Loan paid off early hence the no paperwork, it was all binned before PPI was a "thing"

Don't even think bank statements go back that far

    Thanks

Pre-regulation as per comments above, even with documents they don't need to consider it

  • I'm guessing this is no use pursuing RFS? I bought my Clio from Renault Dec 2004 and I was sold PPI.

As you appear to have already read this long thread, this is just to confirm that 2004 is pre-regulation of general insurance sales in 2005. The car dealer (if still trading) who sold you the insurance doesn't have to even consider any complaint and you'll have no access to the Ombudsman or FSCS.
