Reclaim PPI from Renault Financial Services (now RCI)

RCI Renault IS regulated by the FSA.
However, it has NO Appointed Representatives. Therefore, it would be the dealer, not RCI that is responsible and, as DunstonH has indicated, it is the dealer you should complain to.
If the sale took place on or after 14 January 2005 then you can take the dealer or FOS or if they no longer exist, seek help from the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
If it was before that you cannot. If that is the case then you should ask FOS if the dealer subscribed to the General Insurance Standards Council's code of practice. If it did not then you can complain to the insurer that it breached the code by accepting business from a non-subscribing intermediary and you have suffered a loss as a result.
If it did subscribe and has simply gone bust then the insurer has done nothing wrong and, if you'll excuse the pun, it is the end of the road.0 -
Hi all,
I'm just looking into the finance agreement I took out with RFS Ltd. in April 2006 to purchase a Renault Clio.
Looking at all the small print, it seems to suggest that "this agreement is unprotected by Credit Protection".
However, looking at the page numbering of the agreement handed over to me by the dealer, there seem to be a lot of pages missing i.e. I've only got Pages 3 of 16, 6 of 16, 13 of 16 and 15 of 16.
I will submit a full Subject Access Request for the missing pages to see if they include anything on PPI but, in the meantime, I'm wondering if someone can explain this term (which appears in the "Details of Insurance Products" section on one of the pages I actually have):
"Total Payments in respect of goods, insurance and maintenance..."
It then goes on to detail the values of the instalments i.e. First instalment of £242.98 comprising of a £143.98 Finance Instalment and a £99.00 Acceptance Fee, one month from the date of signature by us, followed by 46 instalments of £143.98 (finance instalment), and finally 1 instalment one month thereafter (the "Final Instalment") of £272.98 comprising of a £143.98 Finance instalment and a £119.00 Credit Facility and £10 Option Fee.
My question is - is it possible there is PPI hidden in the "Finance Instalment" which is not a term which is explained anywhere?
I'm just suspicious the explanation of this term is in the missing pages and that "Total Payments in respect of goods, insurance and maintenance" indicates the inclusion of PPI.
Just wondering whether anyone else has experienced something similar?0 -
I also bought a clio on finance in 2003 and was told I had to take out the cover even though I was a student in part time work. This is my next port of call after looking on the renault website. (sorry can't post links as I'm a new user).

Edit: just spoke with Pinnacle, they transferred me to renault on 0871 987 0091. They seem like the people to call but said they couldn't help me unless I had my policy number.0 -
Just spoke to a helpful girl at RCI financial services on 0871 987 0091. She asked me to send in copies of bank statements to prove payments (as I didn't have my documents) and send to:
RCI Financial Services
Customer Relations Department
78 St Albans Road
Egale House
Watford
Hertfordshire
WD17 1AF
And that I should hear back within eight weeks..... Fingers crossed!0 -
I'm interested in this one as I bought a car in December 2004 using RFS.
Seems to be a problem with companies change their names and move offices and stuff tracking down the responsible party.0 -
Hello,
I need to ring RCI, but I am abroad. Does anyone have an alternative number to the 0870 one, as this doesn't work when calling from outside the UK.
Many thanksChallenges:

Humpty Bumpty......
I had a loan from Autoworld a Clio starting in Dec 04, ending in Dec 08. Autoworld are part of the Renault Retail group.
I have searched high and low for documentation. The only thing I can find is bank statements showing DD's to RFS which changed to RCI someway through the loan.
Regarding the PPI part of it I vaguely remember talking at length about to the salesman (who I actually knew) but nothing more than that.
I have just successfully reclaimed £230 of PPI payments from MBNA on my credit card. They sent me a pack with forms to fill in. I didn't even ask for these forms to be sent, it just came in the post one day, filled it in and about 2 months later a cheque arrived.
The reason I put for being missold PPI was that I did get a decent amount of sick pay I was off work for a long amount of time.
Anybody had any recent success with RCI/RFS??0 -
You might as well forget your complaint because they weren't regulated at the time it was sold.
There's nothing stopping you complaining to the company who sold it to you but you will need the account number. To get this, you'll have to send a SAR and £10 tot he company that sold it to you and then if they have destroyed it, your complaint is again over.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
