  • How much did you manage to get back from your PPI mikey? I'm just in the process of trying to claim mine and having a nightmare
  • Hi Nic,

Sounds like you are at the same stage as me with RCI, it appears RCI are being very difficult about PPI claims, I had 3 Renault vehicles with PPI from 1999 until 2008, however I believe you can only claim PPI until Dec 2004 as they became regulated in Jan 2005.

I sent my PPI complaint email to RCI weeks ago, I included all of my agreement numbers, vehicle registrations and time periods, and they only responded 2 days ago, they basically responded by saying that they only held account records for upto 6 years, and that the only way they would investigate the PPI claim is by sending in copy of bank statements from 1999 to the end of 2004, unfortunately I could only find about 12 hard copy statements (I'm surprised I had these) which amounts to about £200 in PPI payments, I have posted these off to RCI today and await their response, I am fairly certain they are only going to pay me £200 + the interest which is really annoying.

Would be nice to hear how they dealt with you, and how things are moving forward, keep me posted

I cannot promise anything but as a small chink of optimism, the FOS makes credit card companies who have agreed there was a miss-sale to refund the PPI payments based on an average on the know records - the fact you have some statements proving you paid it may help with a refund (I would again stress that process is for credit cards but maybe they will look in the same way) - your bank may still have copies of your old statements if you are still a customer though you will probably have to pay to get copies printed

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

    Hi Nasqueron,

Thanks for your reply to the post.

I have pointed out to RCI to take into consideration the PPI amount for the missing statements between 1999 to Dec 2004. In regards to the bank still having old copies of statements, they had stated that they no longer have them going this far back.

I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi Nic, I received nearly £4000 pound from RFS or RFI, did not have any statements just the paperwork for the loan which showed the ppi amount. I know the insurance was with St Andrews but RFI were the ones that sent the cheque. Good luck with your claim.

    Hi Mikey,

Roughly how long did the process take you from you initial letter to RCI until you received your payment?

Instead of being annoyed, try and be more positive. They didnt have to pay you anything for those years if they chose not to.

Very true Taff, I will just have to wait and see what the outcome is, hopefully they will pay me the full amount of about 3k back
  • Yesterday I received a PPI rejection letter from RCI stating that my monthly payments did not include PPI payments, they advised that any PPI payments came out as a separate entity on your monthly bank statement, and as mine did not they are stating that I never had a PPI policy, this has made me upset and angry as I know 100% that I had PPI on 3 separate loans with RFS.

I am not sure what to do next, do I accept their decision or use a PPI claim management company and pay them a cut of any successful payment?

A CMC cannot do anything more than you. In the absence of any paperwork I'm not sure what else you expect to do - can you demonstrate from the limited statements that the amount paid would include PPI?
