JD Sports 7 day refund policy is outrageous

I purchased a pair of jogging trousers on one weekend, but I decided not to try it on at the store for two reasons. I did not feel comfortable using the store's changing facilities and I often prefer saving time while shopping and try the garmets at home. H&M supports this by actually encouraging customers buy them first and get a refund when they are not happy about the garments.
Well it did not fit or I found it unsuitable when I tried them at home. I kept the trousers in the original bag with the receipt to remind myself to return it the next weekend. Oh, did I mention? I have a full time job. It mostly finishes after the stores close and I usually run all errands during the weekend. I wouldn't abandon my responsibility at work so I could return pair of trousers in the store. I'm sure most people would do the same.
Then something happens in the weekend so I need to travel down to another city. No errands that weekend but not the end of the world. I can still shop some groceries during the week because supermarkets close late.
So I remembered the trousers. I throught it would be like most shops, to allow around 1 month for refund of goods. I quickly read through the back of the receipt and saw the number 28. Yes I probably should have read it word by word.
It's only when I return to the shop during the week I find that they cannot give me a cash refund because they have 7 day refund policy. 28days I saw the other day, was only for exchanges and gift cards. I was angry and felt it was unfair. That morning I had to remind myself to bring it to work, so that I can quickly drop by at the store on the way back from my meeting. All that effort was useless because I returned it in 10days, not 7 days.
I am writing a complaint letter to the address shown on a card the saleperson handed to me. Clearly she wasn't interested in my opinion, therefore kept repeating 'Sorry the till won't allow it I can only give you the giftcard' just to shut me up.
So I have a JD Sports gift card. I don't have any chavy friends so I don't know what to do with it. Buy something else? I already found it difficult to buy anything in there, the jogging trousers I initially bought was probably the only closest thing I found there. Big mistake thinking 'I could buy these, try them on at home and return them if it doesn't fit'.
What does people think about this? Am I being unreasonable? I just hate using !!!!!! changing rooms. I once unwillingly used one at Sports direct and I was constantly worried that the security camera directly outside could see through the changing room I was in. Outside the cubicle there were more than 20 chavy lads queuing up at the till, holding football shirts and all. It didn't even have a full height door so they could obviously see there's me trying something on in the cubicle. I saw some of them looking towards me. It was a very traumatic experience...
Technically I cannot ask for anything else than what they offered me, a useless giftcard (only valid for 12months), so I can only suggest them to give me the refund and leave me as a happy customer. I wouldn't want to go back in there ever again after spending that giftcard though.

Not much incentive to give you a refund then!0 -
Seeing as JD Sports don't have to offer you any refund whatsoever seeing as the item wasn't faulty I wouldn't say their policy was particlarly outrageous.
Whether the salesperson was interested in your opinion or not is irrelevent, do you really think that they would have the authority to bypass the policies of a nationwide company?
I can see your point about changing rooms, I don't particularly like them, but its the price you have to pay if you want to check the clothes fit before you purchase them.0 -
Not too sure what your question is, but can you sell the gift card on Gumtree?0
-
You are given an opportunity to try the clothes on in the store, you can also check the returns policy of a store before purchase.
Assumptions are the mother of all **** ups a friend once told me.
Also making prejudice comments about people who shop there isn't going to help your case for sympathy...
Maybe the lads buying football shirts played football or were fans, not looking for the next changing room to bust in to and take pictures on their camera phones... :think:0 -
I did not feel comfortable using the store's changing facilities

1. You have a problem if you can shut a curtin take your trousers off and put the new ones on for 1 min.
2. Thats abit discrimination classing JDSports as Chavy place to buy clothes.
Your the one buying jogging bottoms isn't that what a general chav wears pear of loose jogging bottoms.0 -

so you bought it on a weekend but was unable to return on a weekend cos you run errands at weekends. (still have time to shop tho)
Next weekend you have no errands and still dont return.
Oh i forgot that you work ALL week meaning you couldnt return the trousers sooner yet finaly managed to return them while at work.
Could you not have just done that in the first place?0 -

So only "chavy" people shop there do they?
What does this make you then?0 -
Huh looks like it's all JD Sports fans here! Forget it.
Or are you all chavs and feeling offended? Ha!0 -

No, it is actually quite gernerous compared to other similar stores.jennijenjen wrote: »I am writing a complaint letter to the address shown on a card the saleperson handed to me. Your opinion will not change the store policy.jennijenjen wrote: »What does people think about this? Am I being unreasonable?
Yes you are. They don't have to refund/exchange anything just because you failed to try on the item. You are lucky that they offered you the giftcard as that in itself is above and beyond your statutory rights.jennijenjen wrote: »I just hate using !!!!!! changing rooms. They wouldn't be able to see anything unless the door was see-through or the were stood by the door peering over the top? And I'm sure you weren't naked (unless you shop commando?).
Nice of you to presume everyone who wears a football shirt is a chav!jennijenjen wrote: »Technically I cannot ask for anything else than what they offered me, a useless giftcard (only valid for 12months), so I can only suggest them to give me the refund and leave me as a happy customer. You've answered your own rant there! Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0 -
And Baza52, if you haven't read my post through, quoting it to point out something I've already explained is a bit pointless isn't it? Bought on sunday, following weekend I had to travel so couldn't make it, so I tried to sort it out en route during work on a weekday. Get it?0
