Huh looks like it's all JD Sports fans here! Forget it.

Or are you all chavs and feeling offended? Ha!

Are you a chav then because you chose to shop there?

Why not buy yourself another pair of jogging bottoms with the gift card, or a sports bag or some running/training shoes?

I do think you are being unreasonable, seeing as they didn't have to even give you the gift card.

No, we just understand our consumer rights

I wear an England football shirt during the tournaments and shop for my trainers at Sports Direct so I suppose by your (very high and snobby) standards I must be a chav!! :D

  • I don't know where you shop SaLoGo but that doesn't happen where I normally shop. These include Topshop, H&M, River Island, Selfridges&Co, Hollister etc etc. They all provide full refund within a month.

so you bought it on a weekend but was unable to return on a weekend cos you run errands at weekends. (still have time to shop tho)
Next weekend you have no errands and still dont return.
Oh i forgot that you work ALL week meaning you couldnt return the trousers sooner yet finaly managed to return them while at work.

Could you not have just done that in the first place?

Quite, and don't forget to add shopping at a store they despise and don't feel safe in. Add to the list not making sure to understand the returns procedure and also, having an attitude when not getting their own way.

These are not things which are going to persuade a retailer to bend their rules.

If I had not read the returns policy, I would certainly have tried to return the items but light hearyedly mention my embarrassment at returning late and ask if I could still have a refund.

If that didn't work I would accept the voucher (it being my fault after all!).

OP, if you do want to write to them, don't make it a complaint. Just mention you were unable to return on time and ask if this once they would make an exception.
  • Ok I'm going to stop ranting on because there's no point. Perhaps I've been previliged with a very generous consumer rights so far and didn't understand people live with this kind of crap. I just never have to return to JD Sports and forget this shop ever existed. Shop on. Good bye.

I shop at a variety or stores. Some offer a no quibble refund if you change your mind, some don't. The time limit for this refund varies from store to store.

But the important thing to remember is that they don't have to offer you a refund.

Maybe you should stick to the stores that you normally shop at and stay away for the "chavy" stores.

  • Thank you for your advice Techhead.

I had a run following weekend so I desperately needed a jogging bottom before that and I knew I couldn't shop during the week. So I made a decision without considering much, because I assumed that all high street stores would have similar policy. Rational decisions is never good when shopping!

They're not CONSUMER RIGHTS, they're the stores RETURN POLICY

Thing is, OP, any shop which allows you to buy goods and return them for no other reason than 'Change of mind' (ie not faulty) is giving rights over and above your statutory rights. So they can set whatever T&Cs they like. Some stores DON'T take back 'change of mind' purchases at all.

If I ever buy without trying (usually pick up something for the one of the Vallikids) from any store at the till I ASK if I can bring it back if it's 'not right' - ie 'this is for my son, can I bring it back if he doesn't like it?' - If they say no I don't buy. And, out of habit I do this every time - usually in Republic actually (gotta love their sale rail).

And, if you do return to the forum to post please bear in mind that if you choose to denigrate a section of the population (while asking for advice) that will be picked up on and you will not get the advice/support you seek. You got emotional and personal - so some posters responded to that rather than your question. Your irritation with JD is unlikely to make them alter their stance. But you could have politely asked to speak to the manager, explained you hadn't realised the limit on returns, it was only three days, on this occasion could he possibly refund please?
