Problem with Ebay Seller
Comments

Thanks for all your input and advice guys...good or bad!
I have decided just to wait it out, claim INR on 2 October and get my money back. I did want the item, but I can purchase another.
I have no intention of agreeing to cancel and if this means they lose £26.00 in fee's, that's their problem.
I know the fee issue will probably open a can of worms from all ebay sellers on here, but I genuinely believe the sellers attitude stinks. They seem to think that I am trying to pull a fast one. They have clearly not investigated the paypal 'hold' otherwise that would see that it really isn't a major issue. I don't think it is my responsibility to explain how it works.
Quite frankly, I get a little tired of eBay sellers trying to 'bend' or downright break the rules. I am not saying for one moment that I agree with paypal holding funds, it happened to me and it lasted for five months before paypal lifted it. It is a pain, but you just need to manage it. I sold an item for £400.00 and did not get the funds for 18 days. I't did not even enter my head to contact the buyer and say they can't have it until I get paid. Its a ridiculous notion.
If the seller had approached me with their concerns in a business like manner, I perhaps would be more agreeable. They just went for the jugular in their tone and attitude. Its not the way to do business.
So, instead of just investigating the hold issue, realising that it is not a major problem and completing the sale, they will now have to fork out fee's and they will be left with negative feedback and everything that comes with it.
I also forgot to mention that on the listing they offered to deliver for the 'price of a drink'. I offered them £30.00 cash which they were delighted with. I was happy with the item which I got at a reasonable price and I would have paid slightly more, so I offered the additional £30.00 as a thank you. So overall, their loss really.0 -
No way would I pay via BACS - the seller has the money in their account, it's just got a temporary hold until 21 days / feedback is left, whatever comes first.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

I went through a similar thing, I was a new seller to Ebay sold a phone £220 to the highest bidder, the money went straight through to be held for 21 days. I says that Paypal holds the money, you send the goods with tracking number which you fill out, send the goods off to the buyer and wait for feedback, then the money is released job done.
But saying that I did sell a set of wheels to a high bidder money went straight to hold by paypal, buyer collected so the person knew what he had and the condition. I waited for feedback none came, contacted buyer with no response to feedback so had to wait for the 21 days, but it did come through when the 21 days were up.
So I have experience in both, they should send the goods and wait for feedback so money can be released from paypal. These are paypal rules not yours, you done your bit and paid for the goods, they should send the item and wait for the money to be released from paypal regardless if is 5, 10, or 21 days paypal holds the money, it do show on the account as pending.0 -

As an aside, if I was the seller, whether you were collecting, or I was delivering, I wouldn't take paypal in the first place. They definately have a lot to learn.0 -
After a couple more sales though buyers won't read the feedback they'll just see it as a positive rating.
A good way of alienating the seller completely."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Seller, tbh, is alienating himself from the buyer quite nicely on his own.
Must admit, I thought that.
I don't really care if the seller is happy, if the product is what I expect, I will do a SNAD, or an INR if it doesn't arrive (in time, not two weeks later)
If the seller spends his life upsetting buyers, it'll show in the feedback, and the buyers will just move onto a different seller.
So, the big question must be, who needs who more on ebay, the seller or the buyer?
I can always buy from other online sites, or even go down to the shop.
Can sellers open their own sites, or move into shopping centres?0 -

At the point you suggested leaving a false positive it we were assuming that the OP still wanted the item, so to leave a remark such as the one you suggested could mean that the seller would then drag his heels with posting.
Two wrongs don't make a right, I have been on the side of the buyer all the way along if you care to read my previous comments.
I just can't see the point in trying to p someone off until the transaction is complete. Once the buyer has his item safely in his possession then leave a big fat neg if that's what he wants to do.
The chances are this seller won't last long on ebay anyway.0 -
"Goods not received, feedback left as very seller won't ship otherwise. Do not buy from them"
That sort of thing maybe.
It wasn't meant as a serious response, it was a suggestion for feedback for the post above. Why not leave the seller feedback now to release the funds, you could even word the FB in that manner so not to predjuce yourself in the event you need to make a claim.
I certainly wouldn't be leaving a serious positive.
I'd go for an INR, get a refund, leave a neg, 1 star across the board, then buy from someone else personally.0 -

To be honest - and I say this as someone who has sold quite a bit - selling on eBay is too easy. Firstly I think all sellers should buy and should be able to prove they have buying experience - say 10-20 FB before they can even begin to sell. Secondly, they should be appraised by eBay of their responsibilities and what it takes to do it - by being made to take tutorials before they start, since they need to know what their responsibilities are rather than just leaving them to muddle through. eBay should give them a guided tour, particularly of the Paypal hold system, explain what escrow is, and explain where equivalent systems are in use (e.g. Amazon where the first payments are not made until two weeks into the selling career and payment is not generally released until the item is marked as shipped), and then they should be asked whether they agree or not (like on many other sites) and only then should they be taken to the SYI form pages.
eBay are beginning to listen in that a new seller has to prove themselves before the "stabilisers" are taken off. But they need to do a lot more to make it more difficult for people to skip over the important bits, and IMO I'd go so far as to say they should rip up the "community" ethos and replace it with an Amazon-style corporate image; it would easier to say to sellers "This is not a site where you can get away with selling your old tat to complete strangers and have no comeback. This is a serious place for people to sell on and this is what your buyers and the law expect"."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Try that at Tesco or PC World and see whether they'll let you walk out with the goods...0
