Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped! Debt-free and Proud!
Am queen of grumps due to who knows what...Pray it's just hormones but hate it. Have taken as required meds in an effort to help. 3 days of grumps is no fun

And people being nosy and moving stuff in an effort to 'help' or just offering unsolicited advice or like asking horrid questions like 'how much coffee are you drinking these days' just winds me up

So yeah I am the Queen of Grumps and bike is still not fixed etc. etc.

    Hi gang,

Yesterday was way too spendy, all my MSE ways just went out the window. To be fair if I was on my normal budget without the bills stuff up it wouldn't have been a problem but I've left myself even shorter on cash now for the month.

OK, so you had a bad day, but please don't beat yourself up about it. Just learn your lesson (which it sounds like you have), pick yourself up and move on. You're absolutely doing the right thing by recognising it, re-budgeting for the remainder of the pay month and also looking at how you can up your income (ebay) to make up for it. The old you would have just resorted to credit (read: debt) to make up for the shortfall so you really don't have any reason to be angry or upset at yourself. In the grand scheme of things, all you did was had a meal and a cab ride, its not like you went out and bought yourself an iPad or car or something! (that's the sort of thing I'd do back when I was bad).

Fingers crossed for your eBay auctions. I think most people are wise these days and don't do their bidding until just before the end of the auction. The fact you have watchers is a really good sign. Will you be able to sit at your PC at the auction end time? Its SUCH a good feeling watching one of your own auctions end, pressing F5 over and over again watching the price go up!

Next time, try to schedule your auctions to end on a Sunday afternoon, apparently that's when most people are sitting on eBay doing impulse purchasing.

Regarding Sky... You shouldn't have to shell out for it. You should only have to pay for the utilities that were already in the flat when you moved in, ie, what you have already agreed to. Just make it clear from the outset that you aren't willing to pay for it, but if they want it by all means they can go ahead and get it without your contribution. If you have room in your bedroom, get a free TV from freecycle or gumtree maybe? (since flat screens became the norm, the old style square TV's are being given away).

Thanks mate, you're right I'm getting there I guess!

Another bid on the dress takes it to £20.99 I should be able to watch it, I hope so depends on work!! OK wil try and remember Sunday, hopefully there'll be enough impluse spenders on a tuesday night too!

That's what I plan to do, I have a TV in my room just never really use it as we all sit around together if we are in but it works fine so if there's anything I particulary want to watch then I do go in my room and will do that.

Well then it sounds like you are in a perfect position to decline the Sky bill being added to your expenditure. If I were you, whenever you are discussing it with them, instead of referring to it as 'adding sky to the TV', refer to it as 'adding money to the monthly bills' to put it in contect for them. :)

Like it, will do exactly that. I thought I'd persuaded her off it when I explained how much additional charges were but clearly not! She was convinced it would all be installed and done for £12 a month....I think not!

  • NSD no 5 yesterday - halfway to target!

Worked until 9pm last night so pretty knackered today, going to try and get out earlier but will see. At least its helping me not to spend!

I got a lot of emails about my quins shirt and could easily have had a bidding war going but one of them was from a guy I knew, his uncle used to play for the Quins and his family were huge fans, he's moved to Oz and wanted to send it to his Dad as a birthday present so I went with him! He put £70 in my account this morning, it was important for me that it went to something who would really enjoy it so I'm pleased his Dad will love it!

I've moved the £70 to the online saver to keep aside, still going to try and complete the month on my reduced budget then I can treat myself with some of the money and send the rest to the c card.

On ebay I also have a bidder on my broken camera currently for 99p but it does have 7 watchers, my dress is still at £20.99 with 12 watchers. The other items have lots of watchers but not bids yet so will be keeping my eye on it all day!

Not done badly upping the income this month hey!

    Right back to work!

  • Wow! What a result with that jersey! See its amazing where you can get money from when you really need it. I admire you for putting it in your emergency savings pot, but don't do anything silly like starve yourself etc in order to preserve it. Little bonuses like this are great for saving if you have your budget covered, but as you've been hit with a couple of unexpected expenses this month no-one would blame you for using it to alleviate your deficit this month.

Still at least with it in savings you can breathe easy and sleep at night knowing you can fall back on it if you absolutely have to. Hope you can stick to the new new budget you've set yourself and still have the £70 next pay - how good would that be?!

Saw Iron Lady last night. Wow... just... Wow. Meryl is just amazing. You forget you are watching her she did such a good job.

When do your auctions end? Tonight isn't it?

  • hey just dropping in (have been awol)

RE Sky: I think your right, they know your tight for money and as long as you are strict with yourself and don't watch it, I think its unreasonable for them to demand you pay for it to in your circumstances. I do have sky but thats my trade of for not going out! I watch the films rather than go to the cinema or I have my friends over to watch a film rather than go out.

I love the way you fell of the wagon and still saw a positive, thats really good, i'm still i that danger zone where I fall of the wagon, get depressed and then think what the hell and spend more...I wish I was better

Thanks! Yeah I plan to try and do the month as planned but have immediate online access to it if I do need to top up my cash, would be really good if I still had it next payday.

I really want to see that, and war horse too but at least I dont have time this month to even think about going to the cinema and spending money!

    Yes tonight!
