Boy I'm so glad I don't live in London after reading all this thread...

Socialite you are truly an inspiration hun :)

If you can live life to the max and debt bust anyone can :)

Me I'm on a food budget of £30 a week. I tend to buy all the saver stuff possible. I got a book called 'how to feed a family of four or something on very little money and only 3 pans' (here is the link - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Family-Healthy-Balanced-Little-Kitchen/dp/1905862156/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320858359&sr=8-1 - get it in the discount book store if you can) and it's a life saver :)....prices not upto date but very good.....there's also a frugal food thread somewhere - think the link is - http://www.cheap-family-recipes.org.uk/ or like https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3545131 which may help with your budgeting......

Anyhow any inspiration I can be of let me know. I'm so proud of you socialite. Yeah quit the gym membership. Go running before work or on your lunch hour instead....

  • So yesterday I didn't spend anything else after buying my train ticket - won't be making that mistake again!

Today, so far so good! I have that dinner with my old boss planned and I have booked a table in a restaurant when I can use my tastecard so we will get 50% off the whole bill, he is on business so his expenses will cover his dinner and he is usually very nice and splits the other half with me. I have £25 in my purse from my budget for tonight so that should cover me buying him a drink after too. He knows I get up early to ride so not usually a late night either. I always look forward to seeing him and getting all the goss on the old gang!

So while the NSD's aren't clocking up this month I am at least staying on track, I haven't spent over what I've allocated for any occasion so far and I knew this and next month would be harder so I am pleased and will be pleased if I can stay on track through to new year. Then the fun really starts :D

I'm really pleased as my friend in Afghan has just confirmed he is back in blighty for New Year and beginning of January and I have the pleasure of his company on NYE! Can't wait to see him as he's been gone since August and we were spending lots of time together before that. NYE is consisting of dinner cooked by me then drinks in my local, no cab fare, no entrance fees so a cheap night with good company!

  • Always an emotional day today, the news coverage this morning was nice but hard to watch. Some bright spark has booked at meeting from 10:30 till 12:30 today but usually an announcement is made at 11 through the whole building so the meeting should stop for two minutes.

Last nights dinner was lovely, had a really nice time and caught up on the latest affair in the office - the AP manager left her husband for the AR manager. And my old boss is engaged to his girlfriend so that was lovely to hear.

Money wise I came in under budget, he was really kind and took the whole bill so I paid for a drink before and after and spent £20 which was under my budget for the night so all good.

Today I have spent £2 on a poppy as I left my other one in my riding jacket at the yard, I'll use the second one tomorrow to put in my horses bridle, as he is a warhorse so to speak he will be proud to wear it :)

Hopefully that should be all I spend today.

    so, what's this weekend bringing?

Well, up tomorrow am for a ride - free

Then I need to stick my head in my books for the weekend! So tomorrow I hope to have a NSD, Sunday will be cheap but I need to buy some ingredients for a risotto so I'll come in under budget. This month is really flipping difficult to get the NSD's its really annoying me!!!

What have you all got planned?

  • I have signed up to babysit the 18 month old terrorist nephew of mine. I'm dreading it somewhat. Don't get me wrong, I love the kid like he was my own, and I've looked after him by myself during the day before but never had to do the dinner meal, bathtime and put him to bed by myself before. Last time I tried he screamed blue murder and I had to get my sister to step in. This weekend I'll be on my own <gulp>!

I'm really pleased I'm enabling my sister and her husband to come down to London to see a West End show and have a treat though. They deserve it. My sister is pregnant again with her 2nd and hasn't had any of her own money since she went off to have her first. Her husband is facing redundancy so hopefully this will be a nice treat for them.

Petrol will run to about £20 but my sister always has a well stocked kitchen so that should be all I have to spend. Dinner tonight will be the paella I batch cooked earlier in the week. Yum!

    Enjoy the studying!

  • Hi LondonGirl252

How about buying the risotto ingredients today so you can have two NSDs over the weekend? I know it all amounts to the same amount spent but I think there is a psychological benefit in lumping spending days together!

Hope you have a good ride in the morning - the weather is supposed to stay dry so should be a good one!

Why didn't I think of that?! I'll do a whole lot better if I plan ahead in this way! Thanks, I'm writing a list right now.

My challenge now is to have a NSD weekend!

Thanks! Great, pleased to hear that, last Friday we got soaked to the skin!!
