  • Absolutely no idea! they did it all online so somehow got a hold of my details!! One item was at Cineworld and the other was at Office shoe shop... surely they could speak with Office to trace who placed an order and where its being delivered to?

Thanks, another 3.4 miles in the bag this morning, I ran with two friends today and I can definitely go farther and quicker when I have the motivation of friends alongside me!

  • Woo hoo ... allllll most home time! I am SO ready for the weekend!

Tonight the bf is meeting me from work, we are just going out for dinner then he has to go back as he has work tomorrow.

So tomorrow I am meeting my running buddies to run 10km together. I have to route planned out and looking forward to it.

Tomorrow night is a friends birthday, he is having drinks locally, I won't be drinking much as I am on antibiotics so it will be a cheap night for me hopefully. Then Sunday I get to go over to see the bf for the day.

It'd been a quiet and dull day at work today so I have downloaded a couple of albums on my iphone for when I got running. I have updated my money spreadsheet and done some CPD for the accountancy body I am a member of. I have also printed out a running training plan for the next two months and printed out loads of running routes for the various distances I need to cover between now and xmas!

  • Hey guys,

    Happy Monday!

Hope you all had good weekends, mine was mixed!

I saw the bf Friday night which was lovely, we went out for dinner but used a voucher so wasn't too spenny. We have both agreed we need to eat out less but it is tricky with his work situation, if I go to stay with him there is no cooker, fridge etc so we end up having no choice but to go out!

Saturday morning, unfortunately my friends had to cancel our run, but I still went out and did 6 miles which is my furthest distance yet! It was a lovely route around Hyde Park, Green Park and St James Park. The first couple of miles were fine, my legs started to hurt around 4/5 so I stopped for a stretch and I thought mile 6 would never end! haha but very chuffed with myself for doing it!

However, after this I had the news that our loo had broken at home and the landlady was struggling to get an engineer (its a weird saniflow loo which is bad at the best of times) so we were without loo! This resulted in a spenny afternoon going out for lunch until I could get access to a friends flat to spend Saturday night.

Yesterday I went to my bf's, we ate out for lunch but then bought sandwiches to have for a picnic supper. I stayed at his last night as the loo situ was still not resolved and despite leaving at the crack of dawn this morning a 45min drive normally took over 2 HOURS!!!! I was late for work and not happy!

Still no news as to whether we have a working loo yet. I must say we are pretty peeved it has come to this as we have raised the issue with the loo many times.

As I missed my run this morning I am going to dig out my hi vis and go out for 3 miles tonight.

  • Hi all,

Well another week has passed, where does the time go?

I've had a bit of another light bulb moment this week. I'm not quite sure how but my credit card has crept up to £2k AGAIN. I've overspent too much on eating out, going out and clothes. I find it hard when I see the bf at weekends to control spending as its the only time we have together and if we are at his we have no choice but to by food from somewhere as there's no functioning kitchen.

In addition, I realised I had also left off my car insurance and car tax from my budget which made a bit of a dent.... this was the point at which I gulped and put my head in my hands.

So, I added in insurance and tax to my budget. I prefer to pay these annually but with my c-card being as high as it is I don't have the spare cash in time so I'll obvs pay my tax when it is due but I'll have to pay insurance monthly for this year and save up for next year.

I added in a monthly clothes allowance to my budget, with winter, xmas and marathon training I am finding I need the odd thing more often so better to budget for it then the cash is there if I need it and if I don't need it then it is extra off the c-card - bonus.

I am paying my credit card off over 5 months, today I paid off £822 and then im staggering the rest of the balance so I can afford to pay for my bf's birthday, car tax and for xmas. So it'll be paid off by the end of March. So, the world hasn't ended and it could be a LOT worse but at least its manageable and will be gone soon. I just frustrate myself, I earn enough to be saving a reasonable amount each month now and yet I still get myself into this situation!

I did have one last spend on the cc last night (taking me up to its limit) However it was a very MSE spend and in the long term should more than pay for itself!

I bought a mini freezer which is on offer in Currys at the moment. We have a combi fridge/freezer to share between 3 of us and the boys seem to have the freezer pretty much spoken for! So I haven't batched cooked since I moved into this flat and I know I can save loads by doing this. The boys were more than happy for me to tuck it away in the living room corner and tomorrow night I am going to fill it up!

I think it will save me significantly on the food bill, at the moment I either eat out or go to the supermarket every night and each trip sees between £10-£20 gone. So this way I avoid having to go into the supermarket to over spend as well!

I have therefore cut down my monthly spending budget which includes food and should be able to stick to it now.

I REALLY want to be saving next year, the credit card will be chopped up (I can't do this yet as I reserved a room on it for bf's birthday and need that card when we go to the hotel) and I'll get back on track

Hi LS, it'd be worthwhile your BF buying a multi-function microwave, which aren't terribly expensive, and the savings would soon pay for it. Plus it'll be healthier.

Well done on the running, especially with the dark nights.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?
  • Cheers Satchmo, he would but its army accommodation so he cant put one in his room. There is a kitchen area but that has been out of service for a while. He is on exercise now until next week, then he only has one week left at work until the new year so hopefully they will have fixed it by they time he goes back in Jan!

Today I have my end of probation review at work... I have mixed views on this. I'll post afterwards as I haven't really updated you guys on work recently

  • hi London girl catching up as always is a pleasure. the food situation with bf sounds hectic but well done on getting yourself a freezer because I agree it really makes a difference x

Yesterday was VERY MSE, as the morning was a designated “rest day” from running I used the time to take pictures of and advertise some dresses on ebay which I haven’t worn for a long time and won’t wear again. They’re all pretty nice so I hope to get some good cash for them.

I went to the supermarket and for under £20 I bought some Tupperware and ingredients for a spag bol and my version of a Mexican chicken lasagne. For that I made about 15 meals... woo hoo!!!!

Today was a bit spendy as we had a team lunch which cost £13.79 but I felt I couldn’t pull out for reasons I will come to later.

Tonight is horse riding which is budgeted for and I am going to skip next week to save some £££, afterwards I will enjoy some spag bol for freeee!!! My little freezer is fabulous, would totally recommend it.

    So, work.

Well, as you all know I began this job at the end of August leaving the company I had worked for for 4ish years. The first month was OK but quite soon realised that there is not much to this role and felt I was taking a step back. In addition I had some issues with my managers management “style” and also the fact there is not much work and I am struggling to fill my day which drives me crazy with boredom and also results in spending money I don’t have to make myself happy.

I didn’t feel I could raise this issue with my manager right away having been here for such a short time and also thought it would place me in a precarious position being in my probation period (where either party can give the other one week’s notice for me to leave) but I quite quickly deteriorated in my mind-set towards work and as a result I was not working to my full potential. I didn’t realise at the time that this was obvious to my team too.

I began interviewing externally but nothing so far worked out. I am supposed to have a second interview tomorrow but am having second thoughts about that role – I think I would be taking a role for the sake of it rather than for it being the right one.

However, this week it was communicated that an internal role will be shortly advertised. In the stat accounts team which is similar to what I did and enjoyed in my last role.

My manager yesterday booked a meeting for us to go through my probation review as this was due to end so I decided to bring up the other role with her.

I was really nervous but she was supportive of it and said she had picked up I am not happy and was pleased that I had finally opened up to her as she wasn’t sure what was going wrong. However, she has extended my probation by 6 weeks for me to prove that my mind-set recently has been a blip and I deserve to pass my probation. Which I guess is understandable but I was a bit upset as I am usually so conscientious and hardworking that I felt I had let myself down.

So, today was a new day and I have had a good day, done some good work and made sure I have been positive and fully intend to give this role 100% from now on. I spoke to the manager of the other team and after explaining my situation she was very happy for me to apply for the role and said it will be online on Monday. Which gives me the weekend to have a good think about everything and prepare my application.

Fingers crossed it all works out, just in case it doesn’t I need to be a model employee so that come 16th Jan, they have no reason not to extend my probation as I cannot afford to be unemployed!!!

  • Best of luck with the application. Fingers crossed for an interview and success! I hope all goes well for you. I have a mini freezer - no space for an undercounter one, my kitchen is bijou. They are fab aren't they!
I need to review what's in mine, I think I have quite a bit of stuff in there that needs using up, and then get into organising mindset and do some proper cooking prep.

My freezer door wouldn't shut on Saturday night LOL

you can so do this debt busting LG. If I can do it (used to have/get money and promptly spend it) - anyone can (my SW disagrees on this LOL)
