Hi LG, I'm a long-time lurker (that sounds dodgy but I'm not - honest!). Hope all goes well for you tomorrow, my work place is going through something similar and although I'm personally safe (phew) it's very stressful to see my beloved co-workers go through the uncertainty and upset.

Fingers crossed for you and your team!

  • Oh I LOVE cheesy Christmas films, I'm so excited the festive season is nearly upon us!

    Thanks :)

Haha if it weren't a forum that would be a bit scary! lol thanks so much, glad you're safe but its so unsettling isnt it? I think I will be watching the phone all day tomorrow.

Still not feeling so bad today, going to a friends for dinner tonight so going to pop out in a bit and get something for us to have for dessert - maybe I'll make something!

Gorgeous sunny day in London today, cold, but sunny!

Wow - go away for a week and you have a lot of catching up.

I think you did the right thing - when my company got taken over recently I had about 8 sharesave and share purchase schemes and they all paid out at once - including a £250 which I had had in a share certificate form and (not MSE) forgotten about. That was sweet

Just got to work out all the tax now, but not worrying until next year :-)

Sounds like you will / may be well out of it - but as you say let them let you go for the payout and not repaying your fees. If you are no At Risk - then you can make a decision about staying or going then based on the new facts (may be able to negotiate with the new company about covering some of your fees - might be tough though!!)
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine
  • I wish I had 8 of them to cash in - Id be debt free! haha Well the cheque should clear Thursday and I have checked there is no tax implication as they're just refunding what I have put into the account so thats good.

Yep I agree, well today I think is D-day at work but I'm feeling worse again with tonsilitis so Im staying home. My boss is going to keep me updated if anything happens, if its me then theyll just pull me in to the meeting when I'm back in the office.. joy.

Just waiting for SkyGo to download me some films (free as its linked to Mum and Dad's sky) then I'm going to stay in bed the rest of the day and feel sorry for myself!

The only upside to this is that through lack of food I have definitley lost those few extra pounds that weren't needed! I'd prefer to be able to eat properly though.

  • Wishing you well soon Tonsillitis is a horrible thing but all the stress you have had recently can't have helped! Sending you positive vibes for today. Keep warm and lots of fluids! Best Wishes Suz

I had a serious amount of tonsillitis in my youth - when I had them out the doctor said he usually gave them to the patient in a bottle, but in my case had had to scrape them off rather than remove them and they looked ewwww.

The only upside was lots of ice cream and cool soup (but definitely ice cream). That and salt water gargles usually kept the pain and yuck down and provided some energy. I wold avoid vichysoisse(?) it looks too much like what comes back up to be enjoyable

    Good luck with everything

Thanks, not moved from my bed and not heard that anything happened at work today... the rumour mill was obviously inaccurate!

Oh no!!! That sounds awful, this is the second time I've had it, no mention of having them out yet.

I finished off a vienetta yesterday and ben and jerrys cookie dough today. Tomorrow I'll have to venture out to buy more if I'm still not right!

    Thanks Mark

  • Stayed and worked from home today, got a reasonable amount done and watched a film at lunch for a break. Has anyone see Never Let Me Go?

I had no idea what it was about, great film but really tragic storyline.

Still no news on the redundancies at work, we're sure its this week... maybe they're waiting for me to go back to be able to give me the chop! ARGH!

Hoping to be in tomorrow, will report if anything happens.

Payday on Friday and my cheque will have cashed by then. Since its such a large amount I'm sending to the credit card (£900) I'm going to take my statement into the branch near work and pay off in person just to make sure nothing goes wrong with the transfer if I did it online.

Then I can do all the other payments online.

I missed the payroll cut off to cancel my sharesave deductions so my pay this month will still have £150 taken out but I've been told that they will refund that immediatley by cheque again. Then from then on my paycheque will have £150 extra in to go to debt.

Currently if i have no bonus in Feb then my DFD has come forward to 01.05.2013, I know it sounds ridiculous talking about bonuses and redundancies in the same post but last year there were redundancies and they just froze the pay not the bonuses. Plus I worked on the budget and the bonus pot is still there! (assuming I'm still there!)

In Feb my debt total will be £2,253.28 as it stands, but this is my loan and includes interest to the end of the term so the actual outstanding balance at that date will be lower. I would LOVE it if I could pay all that off in Feb and be debt free by March. Then I can start saving for the first time in my life.

I'm actually really worried about being debt free and falling back into old ways, I want to save so much but really hope my habits have changed for good and I can control myself.

  • I can't stop fiddling with my spreadsheet!!!

If I pay off my debt in Feb I'm going to set myself a challeng to save £10k by 31.12.2013, that should keep me on the straight and narrow!
