Hi all,
Quick update.
Working too hard, spending too much, probably not within budget but will work that out tomorrow,
Done two mock exams and havent got the official results but from reviewing that answers I know I failed because on both of them I put the top issue in the answer as my bottom issue because I skim read the paper. So need to really spend more time reviewing the issues properly! For example, I told them to reject a proposal to buy a business on the basis the business isn't stable and the market is bad but the answer was to accept because it was worth £800m! I totally missed that "small" detail!!
So that stressed me out, but went swimming with a friend tonight and that help relaxed me a bit... tomorrow is another day

Perhaps you need to spend more time on MSE?
Best to make the mistakes at this stage then you know to look out for and avoid doing the same thing when it really matters. You'll get there.Miggy

Hey,
Just got in from college and need to have a brain dump (excuse the expression)
Have now sat 3 mock exams and received two back from markers, the third I'll get by Monday.
As expected failed both the first two and am about 99% sure I have failed todays too.
The time pressure in the exam means I'm just not getting the key issues. I can feel that I'm writing rubbish while I'm doing it but you know if you stop to think about it you run out of time to finish.
So far in all 3 i have failed to identify the main issues, the tutor that marked my last exam said "very very well written but could not have been more wrong on the order of issues, this should have been a clear pass and not a marginal fail"
Need 50 to pass have so far gotten 46 and 47 so not miles off but unless I sort out the issue order thats the max I can get due to the way the marking works....
I have got one more mock in college and going to try a new approach of spending more time reading and cutting the time writing on the least important bit by 5 or 10 mins and see if that works better for me
Feeling extremely stressed, miserable and down about it. Have given myself a headache just writing about that...
Am going to take myself off here, have a shower (we dont have a bath) and sit down and go over today's lessons learnt.
Money - what money? Couldn't even tell you my bank balance at the moment, I'll check it tomorrow I will actually cry if I look now.
My colleague found a site which writes practise exams for this paper based on the industry and scenario we have, they cost £60 so we went halves and are sharing them, you get 4 for that price and I think it's worth it for the extra practice.
The exam is two weeks today, so this time in two weeks I will be done, either for good or I'll re-take in November - not unlikely right now.
Right, am off to pull myself together. Can't wait for this to be done so I can catch up on everyone elses news xxSantander 0% £1,529.94

Hello Lovely,
do the markers give you any targets? Is there anyone you know who id good at spotting what you miss and can they tell you how they do it?
I would suggest to virtually every exam there is a formula - in terms the things you have to do (or show understanding of) in order to get the marks.
Can you work out a series of questions or prompts even just words to make sure you cover these bits you are missing?
Even if it doesn't make sense to anyone else so long as you get it it's fine.
I encourage my students to make up rhymes and lists of letters of words to write on their exam paper to act as prompts.
You are only a few percent away, I know they are crucial but you are not stupid and you can do this.
Deep breath and think about it.
Take care Hon

Hey,
Thank you, the markers have been good and pointed out that to gain a pass mark I need to get my issues sorted.
The problem is, with this exam its so different to ones I've done before where you needed to remember formulae or theory and you could work out ways to do that.
The exam itself is to "analyse, prioritise and recommend on the issues facing xx Plc"
Then you have about 5 A4 pages of info relating to different issues or proposals facing the company. Of these, you pick the top four, do any relevant calculations then produce a report to say why you prioirtised it as you did, what you recomend - pros and cons and incluse theory and the recomend on the action with justification and logic.
now, there's no right or wrong answer, but if you don't get the examiners top issues in your top issues you significantly reduce your chances of passing and if you miss it completely you will be taking the exam again no question.
With the time constraints I find it OK to produce the report but I just dont get the issues right and they can test you on anything I've learnt in the last 3 years! To do the report justice I feel I need 4 or 5 hours not 3!!
Sorry to ramble on
Thanks for your suggestions.... will try and think of a way to analyse each issue.... I think its just about taking more time to ensure I've understood it right....
There's still hope, my friend at work is good at picking out the issues but bad at including real life examples and ethics - 0h yes in the report you must have an ethics section and you aso need to relate it to real life with specific expamples - I am now an expert on the UK housebuilding industry!!!!
I do feel better for writing all this down (the red wine may have helped a little too)

Sounds as though you need a {{big hug}} as well as the glass of wine...
My exam days may be behind me (though currently sitting trying not to think about DD's A Level results tomorrow) but for years I used to dream about not being ready for an exam! It goes deep!
Is it allowed / appropriate / might it help to make a quick list of all the issues, however sketchy, at the beginning of the paper? If you can see them in front of you it may help you to be objective and focus on which are most important rather than juggling them in your head. It also shows the examiner that you have an overview of the issues, hopefully including the ones he or she wants.
Something that helps some people is to have a complete day off just before the exam so you come to it more refreshed and your subconscious has had time to sift all that knowledge.
Have another {hug} and I hope you get a good night's sleep.Miggy
