determined_new_ms wrote: »Hi LG, hope ur ride today has cleared the cobwebs! I definitely agree with telling your friends. I did mine, some of them really didn't understand and that was hard - I remember going for a bottle of wine with the girl who used to be my best friend and she said that me & my oh became hermits for a year. I was shocked as she knew about our situation. Had to say no that wasn't the case but we didn't have ANY money so that was why. But mostly friends cheered me along and were encouraging of how well we had done. In the end it was worth it, we now have no debts, a far amount of savings and have just booked a 2 week holiday to Thailand in June. We're also now toying with the idea of saving enough to buy a house without a mortgage. Stay strong, do what is right for you and over time you will see who are your real friends. You're real friends just want your company and don't need to spend money to enjoy being with you x
That is so true!!! Well done to you also for becoming debt free! :T
Hope you're doing ok this morning LG. Hope it all goes well today. I'm keeping very positive thoughts your way.0 -

Hi everyone, sorry I was AWOL yesterday, thanks for all the encouraging posts they really helped spur me on - I can read them on my blackberry but its difficult to reply on there!
My ride yesterday was lovely and really helped clear my head, I went out in the park with a close riding friend and offloaded it all to her. She told me she'd done exactly the same thing when she was my age and clearing it was hard but the best feeling ever. Then she also agreed I should tell S and FM as she knows they can be quite a spendy pair.
Money ended up coming up in conversation with my FM yesterday and I just told her I hadn't told her the whole truth about why I was being so careful with money and explained when i first moved to London on a much lower wage and met new friends and wanted to keep up I overspent and it got a bit out of control. Then that I realised last year it had to stop and i worked it all out. She was a little shocked at the amount I'm paying back but also told me she'd done similar and gotten into about £9k of debt herself which she had just finished paying off. I was surprised at this as she makes derogatory comments about her friend who is in CC debt quite often! Then she said she currently had £3 on a credit card that she'd only gotten for work but uses it otherwise now too, she obviously didn't learn her lesson the first time!
I haven't spoken to S yet, I am going to call her this evening as we usually chat on a Sunday night I'll invite her over for supper this week and bring it up then.
So feeling a bit better about it all today, yesterday I was still quite stressed and had a headache the whole day but had a nice evening and felt good for telling FM, she did seem impressed at the amount I'm paying off per month!
I can't wait till I can write that in my posts determined! Well done, you've achieved so much!
I had some nice news in my inbox this morning - won a tenner on the lottery! My first win in nearly 3 years of playing! I'd save my money but I use the same numbers every week and it'd be just my luck they'll come up if i stop playing so i guess Im playing for life!
Today is a NSD, taking me to 9/10 and I'll have to have NSD's tomorrow and Tuesday as I have no money!! So will hopefully beat my target this month. Looking forward to getting paid on Wednesday and posting up this months stats. Feel like I've planned better this month now I'm going to be putting money aside so I'm hoping that unlike December and January in February I will actually be able to have £10 a day and not have to struggle till payday again. I'm supposed to be going out Weds and Thursday this week but going to cancel Thursday. I think I'm too quick to accept invites just because I'm not already busy, I need to think about the month as a whole and weather its feasible money wise.
I keep thinking ahead to 2013 - without wanting to wish 2012 away - I am hoping to have finished my qualification this year and be debt free during 2013, I think without those two huge things taking up so much head space I might be able to go back to being more like my old self (just a more money savvy version!) I want to kickstart some serious saving in 2013 so that when my share save matures in 2014 I might be halfway to a house deposit.
I start college again this month for the 3 exams, I'm doing one course as day release every other Friday, one as an evening course 2 evenings every third week and the other for 3 Saturdays every third weekend. I haven't been to college since I started this diary as I studied for my last exam by myself as it was a re-take. College was always a day I'd spend a fair bit of money, breakfast at pret, lunch out at whatever I fancied and various snacks, if I spent under a tenner on a college day it was considered a good day! So I'm going to plan ahead, make sandwiches, take a drinks bottle and buy a multipack of some form of snack to take and try to make college days NSD's. I also used to go and buy new stationary each time I started the next course! I have already dug out tonnes of half used notebooks and a bucket load of stationary so I'll not be spending on that either this year!
Quite looking forward to getting back into it and being able to use it as an excuse for not going out as my friends are very used to me being a recluse when I study so I now have a very good excuse for not going out. I have already planned with my college buddy a night out the day of our last exam though! I will need it!
Was chatting to army boy online earlier, he apologised for being awol and said he didn't want to mess me around as he doesn't know what he wants, his ex has been back in touch. I know he was really serious about her and she's a lovely girl so I just told him to go for whatever would make him happy but made him promise to not forget me! lol He's bought a house near my parents for when he gets back for good in 9 days so when that completes I'll swing by when Im at my parents one weekend.
Im going home this weekend for Grandma's birthday, need to buy her a present this week. Mum bought my train tickets for me and I never really need to spend when I'm home so hopefully a low or no spend weekend!
OK enough babbling, think I've covered everything, thanks for helping me through this weeks meltdown. Like you said, tomorrow's another day and I'm going to wake up tomorrow more positive and ready for the best MSE month yet! XSantander 0% £1,529.94

Also I may lose "my" slow cooker! A friend of ours loaned us some cooking stuff when he went to Bahrain for a year inc the slow cooker, george forman and a salad bowl and we've been naughty and not mentioned it since he got back! lol anyway he's now making noises about coming to collect them so that may be the first purchase from my bonus!Santander 0% £1,529.94

You crack me up LG about 'losing' your slow cooker :rotfl:
Yeah going out to the baptist kirk tonight. Went to the free presbyterians (they are anti internet on Sabbath they are that strict) this am and thoroughly enjoyed it...great preacher and lovely (if somewhat strange) to sing the psalms again
. So used to pulling out my wee book at the baptist kirk during the loud rock music they call 'worship'

Hi LG - I'm really pleased you had such a good weekend. What a difference from your last post. You sound really positive again now. Obviously the riding sorted it!
I think there are a lot of people who keep quiet when they are struggling (with debt or other personal problems), so I bet your FM was doubly surprised about how honest you've been (plus the amount you are paying back).
Good to see you are looking forward to completing your qualification and clearing the debt - sounds like 2013 is going to be a fresh start in lots of ways.
Three exams sounds like heavy going - are they numerical based ones or more essay type? When do you have to take the actual exam? I don't envy you!
Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Hi!
Riding sorts everything! I stuffed him full of polos and got a lick on the face in return! haha
I do feel more positive, this journey will be full of ups and downs i guess and as long as the debt dont increase I reckon I can handle it!
Yeah she asked how much i was left with after paying that much so I told her about £300 but that is for everything so i think that helped her realise why I'm so tight these days!
Yeah I think 2013 is going to be a fresh start completely, even to see the light at the end of the tunnel will be amazing!
Yeah it's a lot, I've only ever done one or two before and still struggled with the work load so i am nervous about it! They're a bit of both. One is about working out the cost of equity, capital and debt(lol) so I'll get three options for a company and have to advise on the best. One is about strategy for businesses and mostly written and the third I need to read the syllabus for but is again advising based on some figures!
Hope you've had a good weekend

Just been planning ahead for the week. To help me get the NSD's up and save as many of those tenners as possible I'm going to plan for the week ahead on the day I withdraw my money and shop on this day too, then plan my NSD's and leave my £10 at home too which will help get me a lot more NSD's
So this week looks like this:
Monday - No plans, eat at work and from stores. NSD
Tuesday - No plans, eat at work and from stores. NSD
Wednesday - Payday! Withdraw £70 for the week. Buy: bread, tuna, spread, tin foil, chicken, pepper, soft cheese. After work I have a drinks night with some riding friends, I'm going to make a sandwich to eat before I go and just buy a soft drink there - I might even cancel this as shop will come to around a tenner and don't want to overspend by buying drinks, will decide Weds. Make payments to savings and credit cards. Try to only spend £10
Thursday - Leave £10 at home. I'm supposed to go to drinks with work friends, but we have a work lunch to celebrate completing year end so I'm going to cancel the drinks and go home and make a chicken dish with a sauce I have lurking in the fridge and the ingredients I bought on Weds hat should make 4 or 5 meals - try for NSD
Friday - no plans, leave £10 at home and if work canteen allowance is low, take a sandwich to work. Try for NSD
Saturday - ride in the am, then get train home, make a sandwich for the journey at the station buy Granny a birthday card! Spend <£10
Sunday - train home, make sandwich for journey, eat from stores - try for NSD
Monday - No plans, try for NSD
Tuesday - I have a dinner plan with ex work colleagues, but we are using vouchers or tastecards and never really drink so should spend <£10
Then Weds - withdraw £70 and plan again....
Will re-quote this post each day to report how i am doing!Santander 0% £1,529.94
