Thanks for posting and keeping up with me, I must be hard work! lol Thank you, you're right, I owe it to them to let them know why I'm changing things.
I liked the horses carrot analogy! I feel better just for knowing I'm coming clean I feel like I've been keeping a horrible secret.
Hope you have a lovely weekend too and I will update tomorrow night with S and FM reactions.
Thanks x
You're not hard work at all, really. I started reading your diary last weekend, and have been so chuffed for you, at all you've done so far. It really is brilliant. I shall be thinking of you tomorrow, I know it won't be easy, sometimes these things never are. But it'll be so worth it.
I'll share a glass of wine with you. x :beer:0 -
Thanks for posting. There's no doubt that your friends will understand. I guess from their point of view they are seeing the change in you but just not the reasons behind it which can be confusing.
I've only just started my saving but already noticing the changes in my habits and already getting comments about how I'm acting different so it's good to see it's not just me! I guess there is a balance to it all which I am still working on, for example it's still OK for me to go out with friends but I just need to stick to my budget. It's a good saving when you turn down nights out but it's just not practical in the long run as I'll end up tearing my hair out.

Hey,
Yeah I was just thinking of it from my view, that I wanted to deal with it myself but I guess that's what friends are for right?! I'd like to think they could come to me with the same problem...
Good luck with your saving, it is all about balance that's for sure. It's not realistic to think you'll never go out so it's about working out how to budget for those nights you do go on.

I'm the same as you regarding my personal finances being kept secret, but I also completely understand your need to come clean. They are your friends and you know their likely reaction so I really hope that goes well for you. I'm sure they'll be so relieved to hear the truth (based on the possible wild assumptions flying around their head now) that you'll have a bit of a laugh about it together.

I hope so!!! They're both brilliant so I think I've underestimated them
Well done, I'm so pleased my waffling is helping not just me! I need to get some books on Amazon this weekend too!

HAHAHA! Muffin that's cracked me up!!!
I think they'll be pleased to know the truth, and I think it'll help in future when I'm fretting about whether to go on a night out, they'll understand why.
Honestly, before MSE I was terrible. Going to clubs where entry is circa £20 and to have a table is a minimum spend of between £300 and £500 - don't get me wrong i don't think I ever spent that much on a night but definitely contributed and I didn't even realise I couldn't afford it. I have no idea how!! I just didn't pay any attention to my bank balance until I needed to switch to the credit card. It's unbelievable when I think back now and in a way its more embarrassing to admit that on here than the fact I'm in debt. When I read other peoples stories on here I feel a right royal fool. But I'm not the first and unfortunatley I'm sure I won't be the last, lesson learnt thats for sure!Santander 0% £1,529.94

I'm with everyone else - tell the friends you can trust.
they are probably wondering what's going on and it will all come clear once they know it's money not them...
Lovely to see new faces here too. Welcome Gill, JJ and Stegarsaving.MuffinTops wrote: »LG: " ... so that's why I've avoided expensive nights out. I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner"

They are probably wondering about your purple-haired llama costume... you didn't wear it to work, did you?
It's been a long week at work for you; great that you have a good ride to look forward to and you will soon have sorted things out with your friends.Miggy

Hi LG, hope ur ride today has cleared the cobwebs! I definitely agree with telling your friends. I did mine, some of them really didn't understand and that was hard - I remember going for a bottle of wine with the girl who used to be my best friend and she said that me & my oh became hermits for a year. I was shocked as she knew about our situation. Had to say no that wasn't the case but we didn't have ANY money so that was why. But mostly friends cheered me along and were encouraging of how well we had done. In the end it was worth it, we now have no debts, a fair amount of savings and have just booked a 2 week holiday to Thailand in June. We're also now toying with the idea of saving enough to buy a house without a mortgage. Stay strong, do what is right for you and over time you will see who are your real friends. You're real friends just want your company and don't need to spend money to enjoy being with you xDF as at 30/12/16
