  • TWH, what effect do you think it would have on the private sector to remove £90bn of disposable income overnight?

120bn - cut the staff by 50% is 60bn saved. then cut salaries by 50% - that is 30bn saved. so 90bn saved overnight.

In a strange way you're actually quite cute. It's like that TV programme where little kids give their view on the world and, although they obviously don't understand what they're saying, it's still all rather sweet and quite entertaining.

More than 75% of people in the UK didn't get a pay rise this year. Graham told me.
  • I'm a nurse in the NHS. Cost of living payrises have been stopped. Incremental payrises are determined by what you have done towards your professional education over that past year, they are very strict on giving them to those who have simply 'been there another year'. Once youve had all of the increments in your band you don't get anymore unless you get a promotion.

Really? Wow. Which Trust is that? Good on them an everything but I've only ever heard of about a dozen cases of nurses not going up their incremental point. As outlined above, as soon as one nurse is put through without much scrutiny it makes it very difficult to stop others going through.
  • I work in the public sector and on my lower scale hours I had a 1% payrise however on my higher scale 0%. My OH works in the private sector and had a 3% rise.

  • you have to be a certain type to work in the public sector. I am not that type.

    What type is that?

Police officer? Firefighter? Member of the armed forces? Doctor? Teacher? Judge? MP? Bin Man? Customs Officer? Paramedic?

Do you think that you could do without any of these types of people and, if not, do you think that they would cost less if their jobs were somehow privatised?

I take it that telecoms engineers, meter readers, water company employees etc changed the type of person that they were when their jobs remained the same but they were transferred from the public to the private sector.

It does take a certain type of person to repeatedly display their ignorance of any understanding of how the economy actually works on an internet forum about the economy. Are you that type of person perhaps?

  • I'd rather not say which trust, haha, you just never know who's reading. To be honest there has been a lot of upheavel with increments and pay banding changes over the last few months which have left a few 'without'. You presume working in the NHS that you are safe in your job/salary but turns out its just like any other business!!

It would be positive to cut some of the public sector whether you personally support the cuts or not. Having worked there for some time it’s clear that there are a lot of people that add no value to anything.

As with the private sector everyone should be able to justify their job.

I agree completely with the first bit. It's your second paragraph that confuses me, as there are loads of people sitting in the private sector either doing jobs that don't need to be done or surfing the net most of the day.
