I managed to use up the veg that risked going off. I made a delicious soup by roasting squash (I had nearly a whole one), half a sweet potato and an onion. I peeled and cut the onion into 8 but just cut up the other veg into 4, removed seeds, tossed in oil and roasted the lot for 40 mins. I then scooped the flesh and the onions into a pan, added 1.5 pints of chicken stock, seasoned, cooked for about 10 mins and blended the lot. A huge pan and it is scrummy. The carrots and potataoes I cooked and then mashed together which was an idea I got from a thread here on what to do with carrots. Scrummy and now portioned up and in the freezer. I have updated signature for spends yesterday which included a draft excluder and big baking box to keep the Christmas cakes in. I hope that OH and I will feel well enough to shop for food and eat at sometime over the weekend but even so I think we will come in on budget in this expensive month. Thanks for all your ideas; I am finding this really supportive and the discipline of being part of the challenge is keeping me on track. I will work out my November budget soon but it will be much less than this month to get us ahead for December,

Well, popped to Mr A's to do a top up grocery shop for some fresh fruit, milk and bits (came to £26.52 but it did include 3 bottles of wine costing £13.50, our treat this weekend) as we're eating out the freezer this week before I start my weekly grocery challenge on Tues. Have decided to try online shopping to help stick to budget so am going to spend a max of £90 on two weeks shopping leaving us £30 for top-up shopping. Already put together a menu planner for the next two weeks so I'm feeling optimistic!

Sounds like some of you had a pretty rough week with one thing or the other, hope things improve for you all xxx

Had 6 NSD's in a row but feel like ive been cheating a bit cos its only because we've been on holiday to Eurodisney for 4 days, Kids had a blast and to be honest so did me and DH, Got back this morning at about half past midnight then we were woke up at half 4 with a leak coming through the bedroom ceiling. Called british gas cos we though it was the header tank but turns out it was the cold water tank, that isn't covered but the bg man changed the ballcock(sp) free of charge, very very relieved.

Anyhoo just updated my sig, £40 spend in the week running up to the holiday and just got back from tescos with a £32 spend. Just under £25 to last me to Tuesday, new month starts on 26th. Going Aldi tomorrow to get lunchbox bits. Got to leave myself at least £5 for Monday or Tuesday for milk/bread/fruit.

Hope everyones having a good month.

Another little spend today in a health foods shop. If I buy only what I need for the rest of the month in a few days time (spinach 84p banans 50p lemons £1? pitas 18p carrots 59p) I will be okay but I really want to buy the half price cheddar and pork loins at Lidl this weekend which will push me up so close to £60!

Islandmaid the tamarind beef is really nice-750g of stewing steak, 2 cloves of garlic, an onion, 1 tablespoon of flour, 1 teaspoon of mixed spice, 6 teaspoons of tamarind paste, half a teaspoon of dried crushed chilli and 330ml of ginger beer and a teaspoon of brown sugar. I just bung it all in the sc and cook on low for 10 hours. We have it with rice on a normal day but if i do it when we have friends round i make a ginger, corriander and chilli butter and serve the beef topped with two slices of french bread with the butter spread on top. I had a great day in Mr As today as i walked past the whoopsie bit just at the right time and got a turkey breast joint reduced from £9.37 to £3.80, pork mince for 97p, beef mince for 32p and lamb steaks reduced from £5 to £1.80. My whole shop including a birthday present and paper and wine and loads of other stuff came to just £33.20. as the prezzie is in my day to day budget i had a grocery spend of £28.20
