Can I ask a quick question about NSD as i definitely want to set myself a target for these. DO you count your NSD as days when you spend absolutely nothing or just nothing on food related items. Say on a Monday i don't buy any food stuff but I always by myself a bus pass, Do you count that as no spend or not? Thanks x
Hi p-pincher,
How you want to work your NSD is completely up to you, there are no set rules.
For myself, as this is a grocery challenge, I only count grocery shopping, so when I have to get the meds for my dog at the end of this week, they will not be included.
If you want to take it further and count NSD's as days when you spend absolutly nothing, then this thread might help to give you some ideas:

I'd like to join in again - haven't been here on this thread for over a year, but with prices rising as they are, I need to keep a closer eye on spending on food. We are a family of 4 - 2 adults and 2 teenage girls. There are animals but there are so many that they have to have a budget of their own! We are setting a target limit of £350 for the month of October, and we 'll see how we go. Thanks to the people who run this thread.December GC: £3500

BIG thank you! to all those who run this thread, it really helps to keep me focussed
Please can you put me down for £250 for October, just need to go back and do my last update for September. I think I've managed to come in just under budget which I'm really please about as I did a big stockup in costco spending £150  but still managed to not blow the budget for the rest of the month.
cheers

Hi everyone. I'm a grocery challenge habitual returner, and this time I'm returning because I lost my job and am now on job seeker's allowance.
It's a 5 weekend month for me, so at £40 a week (for 1 person, 2 cats and 1 dog, for everything) that gives me £200 to spend. I'd like to get that down further too.
First weekend I spent £38.02. :jspendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0 -
Hi all,
Really need to start keeping an eye on my food budget and becoming a bit more savvy so please may I join you?
I'll start October with a £300 budget (though I know it should be a lot lower than this). Although I start every month keeping track it soon goes off the rails and I think October may be harder than I think due to imminent arrival of Baby #1 - which means DH will be doing some shopping & cooking - his habit is buying ingredients for each meal as he goes rather than looking to see what we already have
We do however, have cupboards completely stocked and two freezers bursting full - mainly for winter/snow preparations but there is plenty in there for two of us!
