So wouldn't it be best for you to run her in future ? or doesn't she want you to take her any more ?

yeah she does but i can only take her once a month as family commitments so the other person takes her the other time which once she see all this she would try and look for somebody else.

    thanks again xx

So why is she even asking a different person to take her? Perhaps she can't bear to be stuck in the same car as you listening to you !!!!! about everyone? I am sick of you after just 2 minutes of reading your bitter comments about this person who's charging £30 who you're obviously jealous of. I'll say it again, it's got NOTHING to do with you what those two arrange between themselves, you're just trying to cause trouble and need to grow up. And start listening. Just because YOU choose to undercharge doesn't mean everyone has to.

ha ha i dont under charge thank you i charge what the petrol i use to take her this is a site for answers not for slagging and i have reported you for the in approperate way you are talking to me as there is no need for it. im trying to help my mate out and i put the question on here for her as she asked me to find out what everyone else can adv, so you butt out as you have said what you want to say now leave me alone.
jealousy is nothing to do with it my friend is to do with it and i dont want anyone to rip her off as the same as she dont if you want to rip your mates off then go ahead but will bite you in the bum eventually.

The friend has offered to perform the service for £30 and the other friend can either accept that offer or go somewhere else if she thinks it's too expensive. Those are the options. It's that simple. You are clearly wrong to call that a rip off, and too arrogant to accept it is not. Clearly this goes deeper than just the money. You don't like it that someone wants £30 for something you do for £15, and you want to cause an argument about it. Schoolgirl behaviour.

Well it looks like the majority on here advise that £30 is a reasonable amount to charge. Remember that the other person is also having to give up family time to help out and is in no way obliged to do so, being mates does not mean you can just take advantage of the other person because they have a car and treat them like a cheap taxi service.

hold on who said anything about acheap taxi and no one taking advantage.
  • I just meant that the person has a right to charge what he/she feels is reasonable, £30 in this case seems reasonable to me, there should be no expectation to do it for a lot less just because they are friends.

I think you have found the answer to your original question here, £30 seems a reasonable ask by most people who have replied. I guess a lot would also depend on how close friends they really are, I would probably not ask anything from my closest friends, but other mates I would expect something in return.

    You did when you said......
yes your right but that a friend you dont rip off your mates

As we've said before it could quite easily be costing £20 for a 4X4 in fuel ...if the person thinks it's more maybe it is or maybe the 50% add on is what they feel happy with ..who's to know ?

Maybe when you take her you might have a fiesta that only costs £10 in fuel and you are adding on 50%. :rotfl:

I think if the person with the 4X4 reads this she may well have to ;)
It's not just about the money

OP appears to be very bitter and ignores the majority.

If this 2nd person is doing this run once a month - that's nearly 1000 miles extra on the clock for one year and the related wear and tear.

What if they happened to get a puncture during one journey on the way home and it required a new tyre? Would this person using the cheap taxi service offer to pay for the tyre?

A tyre on my car costs £250 - the person doing the favour could end up being the one RIPPED OFF!
  • as already stated, if you are using your vehicle to transport them, with the benefit of being paid for it, unless you state it to your insurance company, you would be invalidating your insurance. Therefore , if you were to have an accident and police attended, you could be done for driving without insurance.

I was watching something on TV the other week about a woman who was stopped by police due to faulty light or something, when he asked for her insurance docs, he also noted the sandwiches on the back seat. He asked what she was doing, she said she was a caterer and was dropping some butties off at a place, was in a bit of a rush. She was done for uninsured vehicle as she was using it for business use, ended up with fine and 6 points.

If your insurance docs show that the insurance is for private use only and not for 'hire or reward' you are committing an offence and anyone you could have an acident with, may have difficulty claiming if it were your fault.

As already stated, if you are not taking into account wear and tear on your vehicle, you are losing out anyway. Would your friend pay for a new tyre if you had a blow out whilst taking her to work? You wouldn't be in that place to have a blowout if it wasn't for her getting you to take her to work.

Not necessarily, I've had a policy where it said I could make a reasonable charge on a passenger to cover expenses (but could not make a profit), it was listed under the headline "Car Sharing" and as I understand it many insurers allow similar.
