£30 doesn't sound stupid to me in exchange for giving up a few hours of her time and incurring wear and tear on her car to drive someone quite a long way.
  • Most companies i've worked for would pay their staff around 40p per mile to drive their own cars when needed.

80 miles x 40p = £32, believe me you don't make a profit from this unless you drive a very economical car once you've factored in wear and tear and all the other costs of running a car.

£30 isn't so expensive, and a sight cheaper than a taxi.

Here we go. Another one who doesn't understand the meaning of a rip off.

Offering to give up your time to drive someone 80 miles in your own car for £30 is not a rip off.

It's coming across that you don't seem to like this person who's offered to take her for £30. Instead of causing trouble, perhaps you should just butt out and leave them to it, as it doesn't appear to have anything to do with you.
  • See how much a taxi costs. I wouldnt quibble about giving someone £30 for an 80 mile trip.

If its a 4x4 then it may not do 30mpg, So will quite easily use £20 of fuel, Maybe more.

My sister was taking a friend to the airport and charging them £15 a week. They quibbled so she
worked it out and had to phone me to check her figures. It was costing her £40.

No wonder she was filling up at least twice a week.

I beat wear and tear whilst getting 40p a mile - just drove a car I didn't care about

Hi, if the car is a 2.5L diesel it could be a 4x4 or other sort of gas guzzler, the mpg could vary between 25 - 35 mpg so on the worst scenario that would be around £20 for the fuel, however, as has already been stated, what sort of friend wouldn't give the driver a little something for time and wear/tear so £30 sounds very reasonable to me given that mileage allowance would work out around £32 !!
