Kia Ceed or Citroen C4

Whilst I understand your frustration there are no no issued you have had there that are any less likely to occur on any other car, especially the clutch and egr. Just your luck to an extent I suppose
Actually, I know a college who also has a 3dr C4, 56 plate, and his has had ALL the same issues PLUS MANY MORE. So, yes, it could be our bad-luck or could be that the C4 is not a very good car.

Perhaps you should take your own advice - Go and look at any vag forum and see the kinds of issues they are having with tsi's, dpfs' & dsg going all kinds of wrong. Same story with fords / vauxhalls and nearly anything you care to mention. I'll also remind you that people on forums are far more likely to go looking for fixes to problems rather than write about how good the car has been. If you believed everything on car forums will happen to every model then my little mr2 should have eaten its own insides long ago - it still might but that's the chance you take
looking at your list:
Clutch broke - it's a clutch, it will die at some point
Air Intake system fell apart - unsure what you mean, some clips broke and the intake pipes came off, ok not very good hardly an expensive fix though.
Cruise control intermittent - this is poor
anti-roll bar links needed replacing - will happen at some point
anti-pollution errors, noisy EGR, hole in turbo pipe caused some anti-pollution errors but even after fixing it, they still recurred. To top it all off the turbo went - This is poor, though far from a c4 specific problem, could (and does) quite easily happen to almost any modern turbo car - hence my comments.
All manufacturers have their common faults. I believe kia had some issues with their diesel engines which may or may not be resolved with the newest car. Point being you could spend alot of money on any car, usually about 6 months after it's out of warranty just to give you an extra kick in the nuts. It may well be a sore point for you but it's no real reason to dismiss out of hand a car that is several years newer and is infact a revised model from your own.0 -
Why would I look at a vag forum, this post is about C4's and Kia's - your'e off topic.
Clutches are reported to break on C4's as low as 12K miles, several examples have been reported. The thrust bearing in particular is a poor design.
Air intake system; OK I didnt want to get specific; this is a known issue, the plastic gets brittle and breaks, this affects the airbox, the pipes and the mounts, the airbox is round the back of the engine and not easily accessible even when you strip of the wipers and scuttle tray. To remove the air box you have to drop the engine by an inch to make room to remove it. The parts have now been redesigned by Citroen specifically because of this. Anti roll bar - knocking from 10K miles. Im glad you agree its poor.
Its a poor car, last tme I looked at the 08 JD Power review it was 86th out of 100 cars.
As I said, I loved the car, but the problems are inexcusable. I found an authorised repairer who knew what he was talking about, very knowledage about the car and the Hdi engines, even he admitted that it was giving Citroen a bad name because they tend to "test" their cars on the public. So I woud expect a more recent model to be a lot better. Though I havent been back on the c4owners forums to look, I mean why would I? Ive moved on.0 -
I have a C4, and it's on 135K miles with nothing knowingly gone wrong on it (I bought it at 80K), though there are a couple of oddities. I'm on one of the c4owner forums, and as you'd expect there are a few people venting frustration at blown turbos and inexcusable bad customer service. But then you wonder how many C4s have been lemons compared to how many were manufactured/sold. Is 1 per 100,000 considered 'never buying french again'-worthy, is 1 in 10,000, or even 1 in 1,000? I bought a C4 because it was cheaper than a BMW or Toyota or a VW, and for that I would expect a few more problems than I have actually had.0

I wouldn't touch another Citroen. My 98 reg Xsara expired after 120k. 40k of those miles were done with a faulty ECU that kept turning off the third injector and that nobody could fix. Even the suspension cracked after only 20k.0

You pays your money and you takes your chances.
Comparing Kia diesels with older models (I'm assuming we're talking about the Sedona here) isn't really relevant because the older cars were of a totally different design to the newer ones and the old Mazda-derived drivetrains have been completely abandoned. Modern Kias are, to all intents and purposes rebadged Hyundais, in the same way that Seats are rebadged VWs.
That said, Hyundais aren't completely fault-free -- clutches on older cars were a bit weak and the brake assembly on Elantra-derived models is unnecessarily complicated. I would still put my money on one before I risked a PSA car though, personally.0 -
thanks for replies, but just to clarify i was looking at the new model C4 not the old type.0

That kia is way underpowered, if my memory is correct it is about 85hp, whereas the same engine in the non eco version is 113hp
Its a diesel, not a petrol. A 85BHP diesel engine isn't as bad as a 85BHP petrol engine in the same car due to the far higher torque which is lower down in the rev range.0 -
Neither are due a facelift/new model soon, so depreciation won't be too bad.
Guessing from your choices that you want 5 doors (rather than 3?).
Have you considered the new Ford Focus, the reviews are really good for it - Ford Focus on Carbuzz. Comes with loads of kit and low running costs for some of the engines.
Or perhaps the Vauxhall Astra? That has an unlimited year warranty, 100,000 miles limit.
The Kia warranty is transferable to other owners, which will help with its resale (if you sell it within 7 years!).
Not sure about the Vauxhall TandCs though.0 -
The Vauxhall warranty only applies to the first owner."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"
