  • i did a soft search on the nationwide credit card it said £4500 limit @ 15.9% so i went to the next stage and submitted the application fully and gave rest of details and it said my application had been approved in principal , does that mean i will get it ?

Pretty much so. They're likely to do some final checks and then send you CC docs in the post.
  • thery gave me a phone number so i rang them they said they could check my application which they did , they said no final checks to do and my card was on its way to me

Arggg I have had some sub prime cards for a year and they recently both started offering big increases in credit limits (after a few small increases earlier on) so thought I would try a soft search to see if I can qualify for a "proper" credit card. It came up with 15% and £1800 so I thought well perhaps a chance so banged the application through thinking if I got it could finally close the other accounts.

It took a few mins then I got a message to say there was a technical issue and try again later Argggg.

Not sure if this means the application will show as a credit search and mess up a future search or if its just their systems are down. Don't want to reapply and mess stuff up.

    Anyone had this?

Trouble is didn't get any kind of reference number so doubt they can even trace it.

Perhaps they will emaiol me regarding the soft search?

Nope they wont email you - you dont need to have a reference number I wouldn't have thought, you can explain what happened, they can see if they have any record of you on their systems and if not you can probably assume you are safe to re-try again without affecting your credit rating.

Ring them. They should be able to get your application details by looking up some other details, eg your name & address, on their system

Rang up and they said unable to trace and should try again. Tried again and got same rate and credit limit so put through again. This time got the rejection screen?

So not sure if this is because the first application is in fact "lost" somewhere in the system or just that I was borderline and now they are saying no.

Never mind will keep plodding on with improving my credit rating. Just 4 old defaults to go, 1 later this year, 2 next and the final one drops off New year 2014 then its all clear.

Chances are it'll be those defaults that caused the rejection.
