MSE News: Tesco slashes Clubcard points to finance price drop

Some of these price cuts are just pointless to say the least: 3p change from £4? Yeah, that'll make a HUGE difference to my weekly shop (and those odd pennies are on none of the items I regularly buy either).
Since when did the value chicken cost £1.90 a pack? (Its now down to £1.89 back how it was before the, errr, price cut!) Many prices I can see even Sainsburys being cheaper at. Can I have my double clubcards back please Tesco, they were worth much more then these 'cuts'.
And has anyone noticed that Tesco seem to have stopped selling diet schwepps lemonade in many of their stores?0 -
If people don't like it then don't shop there. Whinging wont change anything!!0

I work for tesco head office. I've got the in house information0

Anyone know what will be happening to Tesco petrol and diesel 5p-off per litre vouchers, now that the so-called price-drop campaign has started? I didn't see any mention of fuel saving on the Tesco website this morning, which suggests that it's been pulled! Particularly annoying if Tesco quietly drop this promo, as in recent weeks it's been possible to use a maximum of 3 vouchers, saving 15p per litre. Filled up with fuel last Friday (at 15p per litre off) plus several fuel containers, to see me through lawn-mowing for this season and, with any luck, some of next year as well.
The fuel saving 5p off when you buy xxx or spend xxx will continue, they are seperate promotions to the price drop.0 -
Clubcard points are still way better value than Nectar.
Anyway I do most shopping at Aldi now & save a lot more than the points were ever worth.
(will still buy fuel there with Clubcard credit card though)0 -
Ok it's annoying but it is a free benefit that they provide.
Anything is better than nothing - especially when it's free.
Its not really free as club card has to be subsidised from elsewhere in the business, ie. the cost of the reward scheme is passed back to you through the prices charged at the till.

It will be interesting to see whether this latest attempt to compete directly with Asda will work when the previous attempts have failed. Ultimately, Tesco are just looking to increase market share whilst retaining or increasing profit and any statement that they are doing this to help hard-pressed families is rubbish.
There will be some who benefit from these changes (small families or couples that cannot get through 12 pints of milk per week, for example) and some who will lose out. Tesco is at liberty to decide to stop the Clubcard scheme tomorrow with no new points to be earned and only letting people exchange earned points against shopping at face value. That would upset a lot of people but is entirely possible so banking on Clubcard points to pay for you next holiday or meal out is a gamble as always.
Personally, I will probably lose out from these changes and have already started doing more shopping at Sainsburys but I am not going to cut off my nose to spite my face and will probably aim to take advantage of the 4x exchange as much as possible while it lasts.0 -

I went into a store last week and got a few box of shreddiesand had a chat to the checkout guy and he told me this.
This tesco store are no longer giving overtime but doing this.
He told me that he is working today for free because he will work 5 hours for free and then next saturday he is working 2 to 10 but he wont have to start work until 7 to recoup the 5 free hours.
Not only that but the store is losing money due to chicken waste?
Anyone heard of that before?0 -

Overtime is only as and when required by both stores, Call centres and the distribution network. Flexable shift plans have been brought in to allow you to work a few hours in advance to take the same amount of time off at a later date, for appointments or soemthing particular you need a few hours off for, but don't want to use a days holiday up0
