I get up at 6am. I have 4 kids and animals that need sorting! At the weekend I do love a little lie in until 8am ish which is fab, about once a month I go to bed early to have a little catch up and always feel better for it but I normally go to bed between 11pm and midnight.
As for energy slumps, they are horribleI do drink too much diet coke so I might try cutting that out, I get lots of exercise though.

When I am working I am up at 6.30
I do feel really sleepy after lunch and try just to drink water I finish work at 2.45 and then I dont usually have time to feel tired til I collapse in bed about 10.30 - 11 I do think i could do with more sleep by going to bed earlier but there is always so much to do - kids have clubs every night
i do sleep in at weekends til 9.30 on Saturday and 11 on Sunday I refuse to do the football runs at weekend as that is a boy thing:pQue Sera, Sera0 -
I agree with lizzy b. Stop eating carbs for lunch and breakfast. Since I cut them I no longer get that overwhelming tiredness in the afternoon. There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.0

Do you eat sandwiches for lunch? When I was working I would take a packed lunch - usually sandwiches - and would feel dreadfully sleepy between 2 and 4. Started taking a big salad instead and the problem disappeared. I don't have wheat allergies or anything like that - it just seemed that a bready lunch took a lot of digesting and so I felt sleepy.
I have been using the Atkins diet (low carbohydrates) for weight loss, but have found other benefits including better energy. The salad that LizzyB mentions would maybe help in that (although be careful about lettuce - that does promote sleep). Also, look at slow-release energy stuff in general (check out low-GI).
Another tip that sounds stupid but really does work - if you start feeling dozy and yawning, try chewing (chewing gum is of course ideal)... it really does wake you up. I can't remember the explanation but it works.0 -
I've done this the wrong way around, when the offspring was of schoolage I wanted to stay in my pit for as long as possible, and if hubby took her to school, I could still get up at 8.30am, a quick wash all over, dress and at the office by 9.00am.
About 4 years ago, I was fed up with my late nights, normally falling asleep on the sofa, so I did a resolution to be in bed by 11pm at the latest, even if I was reading.
Now, in summer I want to get up at 6.00am, at current daylight hours - around 7.15am. This way I can get a lot done without other family members getting in my way for a good 30+ minutes.
I think I am in training for being one of those old ladies that are queueing outside the Post Office at 8.00am for their pension.
PS. Love him or hate him - the Chris Moyles show always perks me up in the morning.0 -
I have a 5yr old son, on school days our alarm goes off at 7:30am, on weekends we stay in bed till we wake which is normally around 8am no later than 9
Sometimes I will sit down in the afternoon with a cuppa and find myself nodding but I fight it and try and find something for me to do as if I sleep in the day I have trouble nodding off at night, then is mucks my routine up
DS is in bed every night for 8, myself and DH go up anywhere between 9 - 11.October grocery Challenge

In our house the Play Doh lives at the back of the top of the (6ft) fridge and doesn't come out until the table and floor are covered! It's evil stuff!

I wake up at 5.22am (DH's radio comes on then) and he brings me a coffee in bed, sometimes a second one a bit later on too. I get up just after he's gone, so about 6.30. I have a huge bowl of porridge for breakfast most mornings, which keeps me going until the afternoon. I don't get a 'slump'. I try and go for a long walk just after dropping DD2 off at school. I don't know why some people find carbohydrates make them tired. I mostly eat carbs, but because I also try and exercise I've lost 1 1/2 stone in the past few months.0 -
Hello
I think the time you are getting up is fine, however I would highly recommend that your little ones are in bed ready for sleep by 7pm as that will make it easier for them to cope when they go to school.
In the mornings my alarm goes off at 7am however I generally leap into action at about 7.40am :rotfl:I find that eating a healthy well balanced diet keeps me full of energy. A good breakfast such as porridge/eggs/toast and peanut butter. I have a fruit break about 11 and for lunch I have a huge salad with cold meat or some other protein and more fruit and yoghurt. This keeps me going till 4ish when I would have nuts or veg as a snack before dinner.
Eating regularly through the day keeps me feeling awake. If I were home to avoid the slump I would go out for a walk regardless of the weatherTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
I'm not a no carbs person - I just find that bread at lunchtime makes me sleepy in the afternoon so I don't have sandwiches for lunch any more"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0
