  • Well I am one of the ...erm older ladies on here and although I don't queue for my pension (far too dangerous when it can be paid into the bank the same as wages are),plus my local Post office always has a queue a mile long and I haven't got the time for that.I wake usually around 5.30 -6.00 most mornings .Check my emails and have a quick scan around on here to see who's up and about then by 6.30 at the latest I am in the shower and washing my hair .6.45. I am ususally having my breakfast and a large cuppa.I leave my house at 7.45. to drive to my DDs where I take over her four boys so her and her OH can go to work While the boys are getting ready for school I hang out any washing and wash the dishes and tidy the kitchen so by 8.40 its looking clean and tidy and the dogs have been let out in the garden for a leak.I then take two of the youngest to school the other two make their own way as the go to senior school by 9.00 I am back in my house doing whatever needs doing ,11.30 I pop around to DDs to hang the second lot of washing out and make sure the dogs are comfortable and make a fuss of them so they don't feel abandoned .back home for 12.30 for lunch then 3.00 I'm off again to pick the youngest two boys up and take them back to Dds where I supervise their homework and give them milk and cookies and usually whip the hoover round.I set the table for their dinner and if needed will peel the spuds .DD comes in from work between 6.15 and 6.30 or sometime her OH gets home first but not often as he has further to travel I am usually on my way home by 6.30-45 at the lastest and I have my dinner around 7.00 then relax and watch t.v. and knit or read until around 10.00 i watch the main points of the news and usually am in bed by 10.30 having a read.I don't have time for a nap and find that the busier I am the better it is .But then I worked for 22 years before retiring a 12-14 hour day anyway so I'm quite used to being busy.My eldest DD does have a moan at times and says 'Mum your pushing 70 you should slow down a bit' but at my age every day is a bonus so I try to make the most of every bit .I had breast cancer 4 years ago and had a mastectomy and being indoors laid up for almost a year with chemo and radio therapy nearly drove me dotty I am used to being active (even though my mobility isn't that brilliant as I have osteo-arthritis) but I can manage a pretty good swift hobble if pushed :):) To me lying around napping would be boring and I have far too many things I enjoy doing more.I get great joy from my grandsons and hopefully they feel the same Thats one thing the old and the young have in common we both enjoy life and everyday is an adventure
  • I'm up at 6.00 TO 6.30 as I like to cook breakfast for my husband before he goes off to work.
Weekends I'm up at around 8.00am.
As for the mid afternoon energy slump, since I've started to make sure I have small meals every three hours instead of three large ones I don't get an energy slump.
Used to have a terrible one around 4pm before but not anymore.

    Hi AKA,

As your thread has dropped down the Old Style board I've moved it over to the families board to see if you can get more replies from parents with young children.

  • I get up at 8am, as does DS and OH. Earlier if either OH or I are working further away.

    I've been Money Tipped!
In summer I get up at a bout 5:15/5.30am. I like to get the bulk of stuff done before the deat of the day, give my chickens the maximum day length. I go to bed at about 10:30. I take a nap of an hour-2 hours. I don't always sleep in that nap, but might read or watch a film if there is one one. Its better if I slep though.

Now I'm getting up on winter time....between 5:3o and 6am..same otherwise really. :)

I get up between 7:15--7:30, and go to bed some time between 11 and 12:30. For that mid afternoon slump, I browse the web and pretend I'm working...
  • Thanks for everyones replies didnt have a chance to slump today as i have 3 kids for the night and have had to run around after everyone today because apparently no one can tell the time anymore. grrrrrrr. I guess im just trying to find ways to be more productive, i figured getting up earlier would be a good start. I have been getting up between 7.15am-7.45am everyday but i think i should get up earlier, sod :D) i am normally in bed by 11pm, though i

Only speaking for myself, but I am actually more tired if I have more than 6-7 hours a night. This doesn't make me a machine, sometimes i will need a nap (every 3-4 days around 4.30pm) and I like a couple of extra hours on a sunday morning. But If I was having over 8 hours a night, every night, I would be way more tired.

Try sleeping a bit less and see how that works for you maybe?

I don't have kids (yet) but fwiw...

In the week I'm usually up between 6.00 and 6.20 for work and out the door by 7.20. I kick myself out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off - I know that the more I think about it the harder it will be to get up so it's better to just get it done.

I try to eat little and often: 3 square (but modest) meals + 2 snacks (1 at 11.00 and 1 at 16.00). This seems to reduce the chance of energy slump and cutting out diet Coke has helped enormously, stopping me from being so tired and restless. Being busy helps: I actually think you get more tired if you don't keep active :)
