Coke and diet coke will be having a large effect.

I'm still trying to kick that habit myself!

  • I have a dd at school (6 yrs old)and a ds who is 2 and a half. I work a couple of nights a week. Ds goes to bed at 7pm, and is snoring by ten past, dd goes to bed at 7:30 - asleep by 8:30 (she reads her books or listens to story cds in her room quietly) Ds wakes about 7am which is when I get up. On the nights I'm not working I go up to bed at 9pm, hot choc and some tv in bed then usually am asleep by 10:30. I don't tend to have any energy slumps as such, it's a case of dash all day and crash all night!! :)

  • I have 2 children, a 5 year old and a 3 year old.

On a school day we get up at 6.45am. I have to get out as soon as the alarm goes off otherwise I would be hitting the snooze button all morning and be late. On the weekend the children are usually awake at 7am and sometimes I lay in until 8am.

My 3 year old goes to bed at 7pm and then my 5 year old goes to bed at 8pm. I usually don't go to bed until 11pm.

I try and drink plenty of water as I find that I feel tired and sluggish if I am dehydrated.

Best thing to do is ditch the caffine. I stopped drinking tea and coffee and any energy type drinks containing caffine a couple of months ago. I feel much better now, more energized. Try going walking too , raises the metabolism. I do one to 2 hours 5 or 6 days a week now. feel much fitter.
  • I drink tea once every couple days at the most/ normally every 3/4 days coke is my biggest vice i need to cut down its not good for my health or my budget as im trying to keep under £100 a month for the three of us + my sister 9 days a month plus my mil at the moment for a few days, so if i cut coke out of my budget i will probably have an extra £10 a month for food. I can go through more than half a bottle easily, but for the last few days i have been laying off it and drinking water mostly. I stand, walk and go up stairs all the time at my work then my son goes to nursery mon, wed, fri which we walk to its about 40mins there with ds and then i speed walk back to the house which takes about 25mins and then the same to pick him up but i also need to get fitter, i may start running early mornings soon

  • Agree with most of the posters who mention a) lack of iron. Are you taking a multivitamin with iron each day. You can buy a 3 month supply in Morrisons for approx £2-3. b) the caffeine in coke has a rebound effect. You get a short high and then a massive energy slump. I have never been a morning person and as a freelancer and middle-aged it kills me if I have a contract for 9-5 in the city with the commute. I prefer to work at home and get up at approx 9 am, work in Pjs all morning and the bath and go out. I get to bed between 11pm and 2 am but always aim for 8 hours sleep. At your age I had a lot of energy, I was working 7 days a week in 2 jobs. How about getting yourself checked over at the doctors?

Agree re cutting out the coke.

Do you eat sandwiches for lunch? When I was working I would take a packed lunch - usually sandwiches - and would feel dreadfully sleepy between 2 and 4. Started taking a big salad instead and the problem disappeared. I don't have wheat allergies or anything like that - it just seemed that a bready lunch took a lot of digesting and so I felt sleepy.

  • Up by 5:30am at the latest without fail and without alarm (usually awake by 5).

Agree with Badger Lady in getting up straight away. If I linger in bed, I will eventually nod off again and feel terrible when I wake up again.

Also, I'm sure exercise plays a role - straight out of bed and off for a brisk walk with the dog certainly gets any cobwebs out of the system:D.

I'm usually in bed about 10 and drop off straight away.
