ive a 2 and 5 year old and the best thing for combating the energy slumps mid-afternoon is going out for a walk.
i walk at least twice a day for a couple of hours. i take DS1 to school with DS2 in his buggy then go for a walk into town to get whatever i need or just to have a browse in the shops then home in time for lunch. leave an hour early to pick up DS1 and go for another walk then straight home. kids go to bed between half 6 and 7 asleep by half 7 normally but right now are currently still awake coz they were late to bed coz they were allowed to play the wii as a reward for being good lol and DS2 keeps losing his teddy bear.
i go to bed normally around half 11/12, read a page or 2 of my book and go to sleep. alarm set for 7 but we dont normally get up till 8 and out the door by 8.45. bags all get packed the night before and clothes all ready so its just eat wash dress and out no messing no fuss.
i feel so sluggish if the weather is bad and ive to take the car or on the 2 days that DS2 is in nursery coz i miss out on the fresh air.0 -
Lots of the replies about eating and exercise plus getting the right amount of sleep are good
but I wondered if you've ever thought of having your thyroid tested? I ask because after I had my son I was feeling really tired and sluggish, hard to get up in the am and tired already, plus the afternoon slump where Id just dropn off it I stopped moving, cold and listless. I thought it was prob aneamia as I suffer quite a bit with that on and off - went to the drs and they said it sounded like a thyroid problem. had it tested and they were right, now I take meds for it and am a lot brighter and energetic!! (most of the time!)
as for sleeping, my kids are 5 and 1 and usually sleep 7-7, and we sleep 11ish-630. we might all sleep til 8 at the weekend as the alarms dont go off but sadly its never later than that!0
