Another vote for David Eddings, The Belgariad series is a good place to start, similar sort of theme to Harry Potter.
Also Terry Brooks is good, there are a lot of books in the Shannara series and some more light hearted ones in the Landover series.
My nephew used to read Darren Shan.

It's hard to say for sure what kind of books someone would like without knowing that person, but maybe the following, (which aren't specifically for teens but are suitable for anyone from teens to adults)?

Alexander McCall Smith does some great series of books. There's The Ladies Detective Agency, the Scotland Street series and the Sunday Philosophy club, and a few more.
There's Haruki Murakami, a japanese author who has a huge following here. He has some short stories as well as many novels, eg Norwegian Wood, and Dance, Dance Dance
Would your son like the JRR Tolkien fantasy books, like the Hobbit, or maybe some Terry Pratchett.

    Just some ideas:)

Has he read all of Rick Riordan's works? He has written more than the Percy Jackson series. Have a look.

James Patterson wrote a *Maximum Ride* sci fi series ......you can read the blurb on those on Wikipedia.......i think there's 7 so far.

Rather than throwing him straight into the Belgariad (mallorean follows that so 10 books in total) David Eddings (and Leigh) wrote a one-off called The Redemption of Althalus......if he likes that, the belgariad/Mallorean is written in a similar vein & he could progress to those.

Well, my son only read Harry Potter books when he was young, then he progressed on to the Alex Rider books and then the Phillip Pullman trilogy His Dark Materials. He really enjoyed these books and has read them over and over. He also liked Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell and other books by that author.

  • another +1 for Eddings or Brooks or Pratchett, possibly a bit heavy but Robert Jordan's "wheel of time" series is fantastic

could always try him on some of the Warhammer series's, good fantasy genre

My 18 and 15 year old both loved the Hobbit and the 3 lord of the rings book.
    They didn't like Terry pratchett.
They also love Lee Child books.

  • Neil Gaiman is a great writer, I loved Stardust when I was his age. Maybe some classics too? Great Expectations by Charles Dickens and Kidnapped by RL Stevenson are both good ones.
