despite claims by some of users of good connectivity ***I AM SERIOUSLY AFFECTED*** by this problem
18 months ago i signed up with tmobile on a 24 month contract because at work place Tmob was the only one with a strong signal. until 4 months ago i used to get a hsdpa signal with speeds of 2mbps download and 900kbps upload.
lately hsdpa disappeared. it toggles between hsdpa and 3g every 15 seconds making it worthless to use. when i use the settings on my android phone to 2g only, connection again toggles between orange and tmobile. when it got hooked up to orange could not connect to internet at all. the whole experience is utterly frustrating is completely an understatement. I live in city center where the signal used to be fantastic top notch but of late its indifferent to what i get at work. just use less. i can understand integrating will have issues but not this long definitely not.

in another 5 months when my contract is up i will show my ***** finger to tmob/orange consortium and I am off to somewhen else who can deliver a CONSISTENT signal.

Seems a complete non-story to me, when I read the headline I thought there was some underlying issue when using your primary network, not just the 2G/3G availability! They were clear when network sharing via roaming was introduced that you wouldn't be able to get 3G on the partner network. Merging two networks isn't just flicking a switch overnight. If it's taking longer than originally planned, it's a pain, but these things happen in a complex project.
what makes you think its a non-story....there are scores of people affected....there is no smoke without fire.
i had been affected for nearly upwards of four months and for gods sake four months is a quiet long time to sort out the mess...if the company is really interested in doing that. Just by having a clause in the law that they could not guarantee a signal everywhere is making EE to play with it.
when i signed up signal was good if they now cocked up their signal for whatever the reason why cant i walk out of hte contract FOC....
i just hate that the laws are made to protect the interests of big corporates.

I paid to leave Orange, their 3G service was so diabolical. 10 minutes to load up Googles homepage, inability to make or receive calls on 3G. 2G mobile internet was faster!!!!
  • Very interesting story, thanks. I mainly use my Orange iPhone for the internet access, and rarely make calls or send texts. I have now manually changed my network carrier to Orange (instead of the default OrangeT-Mobile). Hopefully this will help improve the pitifully slow download speeds until I eventually buy a new Android phone, and probably on a different network!
  • I'm on t-mobile and will also say that ive been suffering extremely slow speeds on the interent of late. I am almost certain i will leave after my contract is up (in a year sadly).

    The report is inaccurate because:

    1) The national roaming agreement got switched on last year, October 6th to be precise, and not February this year.

    2) National roaming rollout was completed on 12th September this year, so how can they still be "rolling out"?

    3) Manually locking an iPhone to a network will throw up "Network Lost" error messages every so often when you travel about and in most cases will prevent the iPhone from logging back on.

I work for the damn company so I should know!
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

Yep - Im having problems with this as well.. When it initially switches to T-Mobile it can take 25 mins to load one page so I have to manually switch to Orange, I have an Android smartphone and the coverage is very hit and miss. Thought it was an issue with the phone...

  • So is anyone in the know as to when the 3G network share is likely to happen? That article suggested not before the end of the year, but could it be more than 6 months away? I understand these things can be contractually and technically complicated (I heard Arqiva were moaning) but any ideas? They would be on to a real winner if they had Orange's 2G network and T-Mobile/Three's massive 3G network.
  • I read elsewhere that they are turning off transmitters where they perceive overcapacity.

At home I'm on T-mobile and had excellent reception from a nearby transmitter until the merger. Now that signal has ceased and I'm on an Orange transmitter further away. Forget about data: often can't call out or people can't get through.

Now what's annoying about this is a few years ago after a short time with Orange I switched to back to T-mobile precisely to avoid poor reception.

Frankly in general usage around London I haven't noticed any improvement as a result of the merger - either for calls or data.
