Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thursday 22nd Sept. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Well I've woken up with a hacking cough, sore throat & a vicious twitch in my left eye, what joy.
The throat is courtesy of the kids at work & the twitch is down to a whole new level of worry after a meeting yesterday.
No matter, onwards & upwards I have packups to make & breakfast to cook & a husband to drive to the station.
I cooked a small piece of gammon last night, tonight I will slice it for next weeks ssandwiches & ham egg & chips for tea tonight.
Have a great day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning Hester (sending virtual honey and lemon your way!) and everyone else

Been awake since before 5 - DH and DS in other room both snoring - so already feeling grumpy because I'm tired - fingers crossed day gets better! :D

Got to strip our bed today, forecast not too bad but currently too dark to see and I CBA to open the door yet! Also need to blitz dining room and hallway, and start sorting through kids' toys - got too many and a few are broken or have too many bits missing, so will be chucked or sent to CS.

Sister's DH says he may be in the firing line in the current wave of redundancies - spoke up for himself and colleagues, so expects they've added him to the black list. He'll get a fair pay-out, been there nearly 10 years, but it's getting something else afterwards. :( Looks like we're all going to have those belts tightened VERY tightly by Christmas here!

Have a good morning all - hugs and kisses to all in need.

  • Morning all, damp and drear looking at the moment outside .mornings are getting darker everyday, still I'm warm as toast at the moment as I have a small wooly throw wrapped around me as I sit at my desk typing. Not cold enough to put the heating on as yet I feel once it goes on the winter has arrived so the long its off its still the tail end of summer IYSWIM.
So shower ,breakfast and school run this morning Clinic appointment is 1.00 today and then when I get home I have about 20 minutes before jack my DGS comes in as he finishes at 2.10. today as its some sort of evening do for parents at his school. Then its pick up the other two from primary school and off to their house until Mum or dad comes home from work.My weeks do fly just lately.I think I will be 'bottoming out' DDs downstairs bathroom this morning. She has saturday off this week so if I do it it means she can have a bit of a rest from cleaning, and I don't mind as I'm there anyway.Hope everyone has a good day
    Take care all

morning hester, jackieO and cheapskate (here's some hot milk and honey for you :coffee:)
Its still dark and no sunsets not for another 20 minutes.

Well i've started the heating early its so darn cold in the morning and poor coddy (ds1) was up and wandering around in his dads stinky work fleece.
Last night it was blumming cold as well, again put it on for coddy as he came in soaked to the bone, coughing and sneezing. thought nope put it on the timer for a bit till he warms up a bit.

Plans for today include, putting out some over winter veg, general weeding, well more like dinner picking, it a mixture of sorrel and chickweed that naturally grows in the yard. I keep finding it in between cracks on walls!

So apart from the above going to make bread , snacks etc No idea what were having for tea. Just going to look at what i can defrost.

Oh and need to find the material for coddy's curtains!

    Morning all,

Cold here too this morning, but my heating will not be on for a long while yet, got my bill yesterday I am £52 in credit, but they want to put my DD up by £18 per month , I spoke to a nice lady on the phone, who admited that its not cos we are using anymore but due to the price hikes , I told her I would be swapping suppliers, I am so fed up of these greedy companies.

Anyhoo, off to work today, so quick tidy in the kitchen for me this morning, I have mums dog here so need to drop her off before work.

Dinner tonight is scampi chips and peas, the scampi were Bogof, and one small packet is just enough for OH and I, dd will have quorn nuggets.

Hope you all tave good days xxxx

Morning all, sorry to hear your under the weather Hester, hope you improve soon.
Lovely breezy cold sunny morning here - ideal for washing if I had any LOL! First day back att work yesterday was quite tiring, but hey ho soon be the weekend!
We seem to have eggs galore here so it will be omolette, chips and peas for tea and then swiss roll with custard for pudding - cheap and cheerful! Sometimes the plainest teas are enjoyed more.
House is like a tip - never been so bad for a long time - will blitz it tonight for a solid hour then that means I can have all weekend to myself - no DGS, hubby working - bliss! I dont get time to myself often so will make the most of it!
    have a good day

    Morning all!!

Trying to get up earlier in the mornings, i used to be up at 6am no problem, it gave me time to sort the house out before work, so want to get back into that routine.

Dinner was nice, we're trying something new again today, pea pesto with spaghetti and prawns. Looks nice, OH loves prawns so hope it's a hit!

OH has ham sarnies for lunch and i've got a l/o minestrone soup.

Haven't done much in the way of housework..... have decided to just leave it till the weekend, it's not getting done, so no point in kidding myself!

    Morning All

Hester - I found lemon & ginger herbal tea a great soother when I had a cough - not something I would normally drink but I've been converted!

actually found 5 minutes to read/post this morning! Pack-ups done i'm on half a day so i'll make lunch when I get home - I've leeks left so looks like it's leek & potato soup and corned beef hotpot or dinner.

    Have a good day x

    Morning All,
Hester hope you start to feel better soon.x
Up early to make sure DS gets up & he very grumpily informed me that he doesn't have to be in school till 11o'clock, (must put a copy of his timetable into my phone) :) Anyhow he went straight back to sleep & I am on here wrapped in a fleece with a cuppa.
Bright & chilly this morning but no washing to go out . Have to have a rethink of menu plan as DP has a wisdom tooth giving him gyp & can only eat soft foods, last nights sausage & chips became a sausage, pea & cinnamon rissotto which recieved praise from all quarters so will definitely be reappearing on the mp. Very os too only four sausages used & it made 5 portions :T
Today I have my knitting group so will take in some of the extra cookies left over from the DGS' hamper I made yesterday & afte that I will try & have a potter in the garden, can see red tomatoes from the kitchen window :j

Hope everyone has a good day,
Hugs spoons & hi5's all round

Cheapskate I am sorry to hear about your BIL, but I have been made redundant twice, and in the long run it’s been a blessing in disguise. I wish him lots of luck.

JackieO I hope your arm is feeling better today x

Redruby I got a bill for £300 in credit… checked the bill… for some odd reason after my last bill they re-billed me 3 months later without adding any extra usage, so the £300 is just my DD going in and no gas or electric coming out… talk about confusing! You have my sympathies x

    Morning everyone else :hello:

Yesterday I got SOOOOOO much done I didn't stop. Now today I seem to have crashed by the wayside and i've not got the energy to even think about doing anything!!!! No bread needed, no washing to be done, no cleaning or tidying...! So I am going to do nothing, maybe a snooze later this morning :D

Dinner is Apple and Pork Sausage Casserole (with potatoes for the boys)

Hope everyone has a lovely day xxx
