They could then be given a book of baby names to reselect from and there definitely wouldn't be a Hagar or a Kai in there.
It's when they have to get a job and a life that they become embarrassed or irritated with their parents whims. Thats why Zowie Bowie is now Duncan and Dandelion Richards is now Angela.
I like it, and agree!0 -
Apparently Hagar is a girl's name.0

Isn't Rex a 'nickname' for King? Going back a couple of generations I bet it's not that uncommon to find Rex in families. DH's hubby is geneology and he has found in our families Tryposa (female) Golden and Herculay (male). Unusual names are not just a recent phenomenon.0

Rex is the latin for king.
Unusual names aren't a new thing. I'm sure they have been ridiculed through the ages.0 -
There were the poor little sods who got Christened with very Puritan names from about 1560 onwards - such as, "God-be-with-thee Smith" or "Fear-God Brown", or "Bless-thee Jones"...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Isambard Kingdom Brunel - I doubt his mates thought 'what a chav!'
I quite like some unusual names and I think the name maketh the man anyway
At work we have well respected Dr. Kevin (won't put his surname) - It certainly hasn't held him back!£608.98

I have Welsh ancestors with fantastic names such as Caradoc, Angharad, Ehangwen and Blodeuwedd, but I'm not going to inflict any of them on my children!
Omg  They sound like characters out of Lord of the rings or Harry Potter!
I said previously that my name was purple flower, but it's not Violet or "Vi". It starts with a "H". :rotfl:Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670 -
I think Tolkein was quite influenced by Celtic names.
Can't guess your flower, I'm no horticulturalist (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Not a nickname!
"Rex" is Latin for "King", and "Regina" is Latin for "Queen".
Grab a coin (this is MSE, there should be one to hand) and it'll say on it:
D. G. REG. F. D.
Which stands for, Dei gratia regina fidei defensor, which translates as By the Grace of God, Queen, and Defender of the Faith.
The title Fidei Defensor was first granted by the Pope to Henry VIII in1520 or so, when he wrote a book against Martin Luther....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
