I think the reason a lot of names become popular and stay popular is that they are the best names.
Wheras your Gary, Tracy and Sharons have their day and then become dated and unpopular, as will the Kai's and Paige's.Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
Given the emotive nature of names, the idea of a "best name" is pretty daft. And just because something is popular, doesn't automatically make it right. Slavery, for example.
I quite like Paramjit and Gurdeep.0 -
Yes because names are very akin to slavery...
Ok 'best' wasn't the right word to use, enduring would have been better.Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
I'm stepping from names to popularity, then from popularity to slavery. You're stepping from names straight to slavery. That's a very different process. Anyway, I hope you and Joshua have a lovely day.0

No need to be spiteful!
I agree with Sam, it's all about personal opinion.
All three of my children have very traditional names, infact my eldests middle names are quite old fashioned, but have great meaning to my family, as do the others names.
I don't feel as though I have to have some whacky, mispelled name for my child to be able to be unique, and special. It's about personality and character! Despite my childrens traditional nameing, they havn't been held back by it at all, and funnily enough all 3 of them are the only ones with their names in their classes even though they are considered 'populay'. I tihnk all the uniquas, shakiras etcs are taking over0 -
I hate Joshua or Joseph. I went for Oliver, but Daniel would be second.
Having been bullied mercilessly as a child because of my name, I have given my own children solid, sensible, traditional names, and I urge everybody else to do the same.0 -
Is that the voice of experience?
To be honest, I wouldn't pick any of those names for a child of mine. Neither would I actively publicise any of my children's names online. My favourite names stay private.
I used to do a lot of both prosecuting and defending in the youth court. Names beginning with "K" are particularly over-represented there, IME....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Aint that the truth!! But a K instead of a C at the start of a name is "exotique". And at the risk of offending anyone with a non-criminal child with this name (unlikely) the name that in my experience is guaranteed to lead to a life of criminality is Ricky-lee. I also know that I have finally grown old, as the list last week for the youth Court where I work had a "Macauley" on it. I am now officially ancient!
JxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
Haven't read the whole thread so apologies if the point has been made but it may depend on your surname.
Avoid Benjamin if your surname is Dover, Oliver if it is Hardy, Joshua if it is Tree, Daniel if it is Mann, William if it is Stickers or Warmer and Joseph if it is Stalin.
