Morning all,
I was up early too as DS1 ran his friends to the airport and I woke when he got back. They are off to Ibiza for a 30th birthday,DS1 goes on Friday, and DS2s ex is worried the baby will arrive while he's away so 'Uncle R' won't be able to visit in hospital
I've cleaned the bathroom, and DS shower room, done some washing, taken the dog out,put some washing away and I need to make some soup-the stock has been hanging round in the fridge since weekend, but dont know what I fancy yet.
I have nearly finished my baby crochet blanket, just the last row of edging to do now and I like it,all different shades of pink, purple,& mauve.
Right better get on,have good days xx:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Two new curtain poles just arrived - really good bargain from amazon. I want to hang new curtains at double front door and at dining room french windows. Curtains were half price and should look really good but need to find fleece to line them for extra insulation.
Looks as if the gas oven we inherited with the house is nearly dead, have put up with it for a year so don't feel extravagant for wanting a decent one. Tried to bake yesterday and had to finish it off in the remoska as oven was hardly hot even at a high setting.
Have been blaming my eccentric cooking on rubbish hob and oven and dds will be very disillusioned if it does not become perfect once new appliances arrive.
Anyone with a "bunged up " chest, head etc could try some aromatherapy oils like pine, tea tree etc in a burner. It worked a treat for me a couple of years ago.
Going to get a move on and get the bus to York for curtain tape and look for fleeces or curtain linings etc. Thought about trying to make chicken pie tonight but scared oven will die off completely. Maybe try cook it in remoska instead.
Treated myself to a copy of "the great british bake off" (amazon have a good deal on and free postage) as watching the tv programme is making dds realise how easy it is for dishes to go wrong even by good cooks.
Hugs to all
Nearly forgot - the book people website have some good slow cooker books just now at good prices."This site is addictive!"

If you click on her name on the 1st post today you will find a link to Hesters homepage (well worth a look) & the recipe is on there. Hi,
I hope you don't mind me joining in but I read this thread every day whilst at work, I find its so theraputic for me, believe it or not
Well at work, which is very quiet, so nothing doing at home, as per usual, I can't remember the last time I went round with a duster though I did clean my downstairs windows outside at the weekend minutes before we had a torrential downpour! Will be here until 6.45 so homemade sarnies brought in to eat just before I go to the work gym at lunchtime. Won't be spending any money today as going nowhere anyway.
Have a salmon fillet (whoopsied at 80p) with new pots and veg for tea and kids will be fed at their dads.
Had a salesman at the door last night who tried to encourage me to pay for sat tv and who was very surprised that I considered it to be a luxury item! I told him I'd just cancelled all my previous things and was very happy coping with freeview, no landline and a payg dongle for internet use and he thought that was a bit strange (his actual words!). I had to smile at him though because he still tried to sell me it at their cheapest price which was £20 per month! I don't think so, £240 per year plus the tv licence on top. I know they have to do their jobs as sales people which is why I am never rude but I thought saying I was strange was funny :rotfl:no, its just me keeping an eye on the pennies!
Hope everyone has a good day.0 -
Afternoon
I am trying to follow this and the flylady thread daily even if I don't post.
Washing out on the line, DW emptied, BM on and will be ready when I return from the gym.
Just had my first go at batch cooking and we have a lasagne for tonight and another 2 for the freezer. OH has started working away mon - fri and I have found it hard to change from cooking for 3 instead of 4. I even lined the dishes with foil so I dont have to put them in the freezer. Now all I have to do is find some labels so we are not playing freezer roulette in a few weeks.
Right off to get ready for the gym and will hopefully catch up later after the parents evening at college.0 -
Afternoon! Just had lunch and enjoying a cuddle with Spud
Have so far:
made and iced Hummingbird choc cupcakes
done two lots of washing, one on line, one waiting to go out and next load ready to go in
scrubbed and bleached utility floor, it was beyond mopping due to my horrible mucky dog!
made rolls and 2 lots of foccacia topped with onion, oregano and garlic
made carrot and barley soup, and eaten a bowl for my lunch (quality control!)
picked ripe toms and the most enormous courgette - must've missed it last time I was out there, it's almost a small pumpkin size!
made courgette pasta sauce a la Hugh
Now need to pick runners and raspberries, fold, hang and sort more washing, mop kitchen, and find the apples that went missing whilst we were away - can't imagine that dd2 and her pals would have eaten 2 carrier bags worth?! And the cupboard of doom still awaits, but first more cuddles and playing with Spud
Have a good aft everyone xxGC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Hi I'm going to join in today
Got DD off to uni for her last year yesterday....long, long drive for OH and me, but at least we shared the driving, I fell into bed at 9pm just after we got in last night, as I knew I had to get DS up to drive to meet the bus for college at 6.30am!
First thing today was to get DD some insurance for the shared house, the girls who picked it seriously need a wake up call. It's at the end of a lurky alleyway, backing onto a pub garden and has signs of being broken into before, in a grim part of town too...and not even especially cheap! DD trusted them to choose, to save a long expensive trip from Wales. Sigh! We won't even mention that they decided to install a new kitchen the day before DD arrived, or that it was supposed to have been professionally cleaned! A finger along any surface proved that not to be the case  Anyway the insurance has cost £100...but had to be done. DD has taken her best and most favourite guitar with her!
We spent £80 on petrol yesterday, so having blown the budget for the week, I decided to make good use of everything in the fridge. A bit of lamb left over from DD's farewell supper, and one chicken leg, and a garlic and herb chicken breast off the deli, has along with some defrosted puff pastry, some home made short crust and a few veg turned into big four lamb cornish pasties, and a chicken and spinach pie with a puff pastry lid. All the bits and bobs of chicken carcass from the other day and the lamb bone have been boiled again for stock.
I've got half a jar of marmalade I want to make a cake with too...I'm going to search online for a recipe.
Got a jar of pesto that I want to use as well. Not sure what to do with that - maybe I'll just stir it into pasta?
I've spent most of the morning tidying up, doing washing and generally restoring the house to order. Still lots to do, need to wrangle with Hetty Hoover, then will reward myself watching the Great British Bake Off online :rotfl:

Afternoon everyone, what a busy bunch of bees you all are.
I am loving this board so much, seem to be on here constant atm. This morning I did the school run as dh was languishing in the shower and then off to work. Had a quiet shift though, 3 hr sit in call for an elderly lady, so got lots of knitting done
Have got in and put some chicken in the sc for tea for me & hubby and girls will have kedgeree leftover from last night.
Was going to cinema tonight but don't get paid til friday and have a mountain of ironing to do so will stay in and tackle that instead.
No too much much else planned apart from picking girls up from school and need to pick up a tester pot of paint to colour wash a wooden unit in the utility room & then need a bit of fabric to make a curtain for the front of it but might see if I have an old curtain in the airing cupboard for that job;)Grocery Challenge 112.20/250.00

Actually switched on the IPad at that time to show my mum some pics on FB so I think it shows me as logging on. Really. No REALLY.......
Got my list done though but still not feeling like I am achieving as much as I wanted to when DD started afternoon nursery :eek:I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
