  • Should I accept this. A couple of weeks ago I tried to buy an ipod dock alarm clock for £39.97 the sel was out of date & states £99.97 reduced to £39.97. CS at HO have offered me £15 voucher & to buy the item for £39.97. What would you do??? Has anyone else ever had this happen to them

What happened in store? If you have paid for the item insist on DTD but if you haven't paid/accepted refund then it would be difficult to get DTD.

For those new to DTD you must: -

    1. Pay the FULL PRICE at the till. Do not query it then - if you do they will correct the price to the SEL but you do NOT get DTD.

    2. Go to CS and say you have been overcharged. Do NOT accept a refund, do NOT accept being resold the item at the correct price, insist on DTD. If they make excuses say you want them to call HO for you 0800 505 555 who will tell CS to give you DTD. It is easier to sort out in store at the time but if you don't want the confrontation you can call HO when you get home instead.

As long as it is not your mistake (e.g. wrong item scanned at self scan) there are no exceptions to DTD.

    Edit:

Sorry to say it but because you accepted refund at the time you would have an uphill battle to get DTD. However, you should have been entitled to it, if Tescos put out the wrong SEL this is not your problem, you are not expected to double check all the SELs are correct.

I did argue with them at the time. I might just email again & see if they will up it;)

They are often reluctant to give DTD on high-value items and it's easy to talk in hindsight but if it happens again either take...

The stubborn cow option (my preferred choice :)) of making them call HO to "clarify the policy". Always good for a laugh because if you ask they inevitably say "Okay, but they're just going to say exactly the same as I just said".

Or the slightly less hilarious option of not accepting a refund and getting a gift card/authorisation for DTD from HO afterwards.

the exact same thing happened to me....and the SA said that i chould have checked the barcode. She only refunded me and wouldnt even offer to sell me the item at the label price.

i didnt get the DTD and did not think of calling the HO- maybe i will email them. The SA that served me was also rude and she now give me the dirty look whenever i go into the store... :(

one good result of that incident was that i started tesco-ing after i found the tesco threads when googling for people with similar experience.
  • I love reading all these stories of DTD and would love to get a few myself, however, how on earth do you remember what the SEL was of each item on your list?

I check my receipt but rarely have any idea what the price was when I picked it up.
  • went to tesco got the meal deal the green veg was beside the lamb shank , no desserts left in the area so they sent me and this older gent to the furthest away part of the store still no desserts , another assistant sent us to another part where there were 2 desserts left. then we had to search for the wine . got to check out and the deal didnt kick in . went to cs the young guy kicked up such a fuss about the green veg so once again i was off on a tour of tescos showing him exactly where the veg was . he wasnt having it got stroppy with me and refunded me my money back . my hubby was mortified there was about 20 people waiting to be served

It happened about 8pm so I presumed a HO would be closed for the night.
