That was my original question when posting the link if it was out of date or if people were still updating it. Didn't want to cause problems.
Let's just remember the good times

I think wires are being crossed. The asterisk on the SEL is for discontinued items, but the asterisk on a till receipt might well indicate items that are VATable, as described.0 -
I was being served in a Tesco where this 'list' was just being given out at each checkout, with the instruction to read it and sign the 'Team 5' !
Have to agree with nikkilala, 'do not sell' lists do exist, and all large retailers have them, they include:
-products that have been recalled by the manufacturer because of design faults (usually kids toys as no one will take any risks with these), change in packaging design (eg the finish dishwasher tablets at Mr A last year), change in size/weight (pringles for 25p in Mr T in November) you cant have the same product at two different sizes selling at same price.....it makes the rise in food prices more obvious and dents the brand of the company, items with the wrong best before date printed on a batch and so on.....etc etc
-where the retailer has decided to dump a supplier and want to get rid of their product quickly
-products that are supposed to come as a free gift with something else (i.e. a free bowl with a box of cereal or a free jug with a bottle of malibu), adding them to the 'do not sell' list helps them more easily ensure everyone buying cereal can get a bowl and stops confusion @ customer services with people trying to get refunds for things that were free (and paid for by the supplier)
and so the list continues......0 -

I do this every year as it comes in handy because no one in my family remembers that prezzies NEED wrapped :rotfl: I usually end up with them coming round for my paper, DS makes money off them all by selling access to his room at £1 a time where the paper is stored :rotfl: but at least for that they have an endless supply of paper, bows, ribbon and sellotape.
Of course they could always do a Smithy off Gavin & Stacey i.e. wrap everything in tin foil, it doesn't need sellotape and is recyclable! :rotfl:No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries 2023

I wish I knew mk k1ngston had got rid of their scanner before I picked up every item on the clip strips!!!! I'll just have to go and raid the w3llingbor0ugh store instead!
I saw a Sony iPod dock station for 39.97 down from 69.97 but SEL said offer ended on 24.12.11 so I took my chances in the hope I got charged full price but no... Scanned at 39.97!!!!
Oooh does Welly have a scanner? I had no idea. Was up there at the weekend but thought DH might file for divorce if I made him and the kids go to Ts and scan random stuff he thinks (knows) we don't need!
MK Bletch does have scanners if that helps? I hought I was the only one around this neck of the woods.
Just for the record when something is 1p, Tesco have intentionally reduced the price so a discontinued product can be 'wasted' (it's kinder to the store's figures iyswim). They can sell these items no problem, it's fine. Store managers can choose to sell to staff/give to charity instead if they want to though so that may be why some stores choose not to sell them. Of course staff telling customers they can't have 1p items can also be down to lack of training as with coupons/DTD etc.
This would be different kettle of fish to actual misprices and things like the 4p clothing a few months ago... if there has been a !!!! up with the pricing then the store can be asked by HO to remove an item from sale (remember the 52p bogof smarties? HTH0 -
