Just to make you aware, they did not hold your dog at ransom. They removed a potentially dangerous animal from the streets and are looking for recompense for doing so.

Fine, charge us £60 for collecting the dog. But the dog was NOT at the kennels when my wife was ready to collect it. However the warden said no, your dog WILL be going to the kennels for the night and you can't have her back until you paid £31.

The £60 isnt a ransom, the £31 is... why did she HAVE to go to the kennels?? And where the !!!! is her collar?

Assuming op didn't accidently leave the gate open, I actually feel really sorry for op. Theirs alot of abuse/inappropriateness in this thread for no good reason also!
Through no fault of her own and without a choice she is having to fork out about £90 for what should have only been 20 minutes work in the first place! Not only that her property goes missing and rather than being helpful the warden and vet play a game of tit for tat blaming each other.

How is this in anyway fair?

Perhaps there's a lesson to be learnt in phrasing your posts to attract maximum support and sympathy...?

Thankyou arcon5... And thats all I'm trying to say.

Inhumanely, well it is an animal. You acted irresponsibly by not taking the necessasry precautions of preventing your animal from being a danger. The issue here is your ability to manage a pet!!

Perfectly right and fair to charge you £60, make a complaint about the missing collar, don't be irresposible.

How is leaving her in a secure garden irresponsible? What if I left her in the house and someone broke into the house? Same applies? I think not.

I'm not here to impress you and doesn't seem like op is. Ops come for advice after feeling let down and chased for money she doesn't feel she should be responsible for. And to be quite frank this whole post is ridiculous and offers ops nothing but abuse.

The warden should have released the dog then sent an invoice for the first payment, in the same way the vet has. This way op would have not been forced into a position whereby they have they have to incur additional costs without a choice.
  • Maybe a polite letter asking why you need to pay the additional £31 seeing as you were available to pick you dog up and a query as to the whereabouts of her collar would be the sensible thing to do?

I'd leave the stuff out about rotten councils and conspiracies to kidnap dogs and burglars leaving your gate open etc.

But, by all means, if you think you've been shoddily treated, write a polite and factual letter of complaint.

I've done this already as well as write to the local councillor. Don't worry, I took longer writing the letter than I did this hasty forum post.

Mate you have a dog! Had the warden not picked up your dog, would you have a dog?!

Be grateful! I cant believe how bitter/warped you are about all this claiming the council held your dog for ransom!?! really!? Look on their website and see if their ransom figure is on there, i tihnk you will find it is. Theres procedures they have to follow should they find a dog and they did, there not there to ensure you get your dog back they do their job toprotect the public, you might aswell look at it as a fine because your gonna have to pay it and it was your fault, end of. If you want to do something else about it by all means try but my advice is that you will be unsuccessful.

That garden wasnt secure was it?! If someone broke into your house i am certain there would be evidence. A gate latch is not security and as such provides no evidence in suggesting your property was broken into.

Who said anything about impressing anybody? Simply that, if you've got a problem, it's better to say 'Hi guys, I've got a problem' than 'You're all idiots and retards'.

Have you even read the thread, arcon? You keep saying she. It's pretty clear that PeteJC21 is a fella. He's called Pete and he's got a wife ;)

We don't even know that the dog escaped through the open gate - she may have got out before the gate was opened..
