I think posting on here was a bad idea, it's obviously the kiddies corner. The gate is NEVER unlocked as it's hardly ever used, it stays bolted and locked all the time. And you think it's acceptable to have your garden broken into, your dog let out, get charged £91 and then have her collar stolen by the people who are charging you? Wow... and you're posting on a "money saving expert forum". :rotfl:, can I have you as my financial advisor please?
Maybe I sleep walked the night before and went and unlocked it?? Jesus Christ.. it's not science involving rockets is it?? Forget about it, why dont you all go back to playing your video games and claiming your benefits. I'll find a more mature forum to post this on.
Get a grip you whining old moaner.
Would you rather they just left your dog roaming the streets ??
No .... they did YOU a service.
Its not their fault the dog was out, its doesn't matter how the dog was out, its done, pay your bill and move on.0 -

By eck! appen i have touched a nerve here.....:D0 -

Erm a 'service' is one thing, exploitation is quite another....0 -

LOL, yes and what a great service they did, hold the dog to ransom and then steal her collar. Excellent. 5* feedback.0 -

So how much do you think they should charge to -
1) Send a person along to collect the animal
2) transport the animal to the kennels and give the dog the once over to make sure its healthy
3) check its electronic chip
4) feed and house the dog
5) contact the owners
(You also have the cost of fuel in the too)
All that for sixty odd quid seems pretty good to me !0 -
Pete, you really really should never ever leave a dog unattended where there is even the slightest chance it could get out. It should be locked in doors. More to the fact there is a very good chance of the council being able to prosecute you should they wish. I would take it as a lesson and pay quickly rather than risk prosecution. And next time lock the dog inside a building in which it is impossible for it to escape, even if this means the dog goes toilet in your house.0

Yes I accept we shouldn't have left it free roam of the garden, as you say in the eyes of the law it would have been best to treat the animal inhumanely rather than what we did. Would the same apply if it was locked in a house and someone broke into the house and let it out? It was in a secure garden and couldn't have gotten out by itself.
But thats not the main issue, the main issue is they held the dog to ransom, stole her collar and now want an additional £60 for it all? is that right? is that fair?0 -
Just to make you aware, they did not hold your dog at ransom. They removed a potentially dangerous animal from the streets and are looking for recompense for doing so.0

Assuming op didn't accidently leave the gate open, I actually feel really sorry for op.
Also the abuse in this thread is unlike any other thread I have read for a long time!! The people involved should be ashamed of themselves!! Most of the trolls around here wouldn't even say whats being said here!!
Through no fault of her own and without a choice she is having to fork out about £90 for what should have only been 20 minutes work in the first place! Not only that her property goes missing and rather than being helpful the warden and vet play a game of tit for tat blaming each other.
This isn't fair! However, whether op is liable or not is a whole different matter. As whether she likes it or not she has no proof of any of her claims and councils are notorious for exploiting these types of situations!
If this is an invoice, I would drag it out -- if not refuse to pay it. Afterall op doesn't have a contract with either the vet or the warden. However, it would be worth having a free consultion with a legal professional as the fact they are council run could completely change things.
Also op, send them a formal letter of complain, be factual and to the point stating what has happened and the property has gone missing. See what they say an if not try push for the to reduce the invoice.0 -

Inhumanely, well it is an animal. You acted irresponsibly by not taking the necessasry precautions of preventing your animal from being a danger. The issue here is your ability to manage a pet!!
Perfectly right and fair to charge you £60, make a complaint about the missing collar, don't be irresposible.0
