i work for the council too and its if your on sick the 4 weeks before maternity they kick start it early.

jenjade have you not got a tense machine you can use for your back hun. x

I am county council employee to so i think mine is the same so i could go off sick. i might struggle through next week and see how that goes.

Do you think a Tens machine would help my back? i am in constant pain with it because i have scolisis (curve in my spine) and the extra weight is not helping.

I have physio tuesday so might ask her if it would help?

I have never used one before can anyone recommend a good one or share thier experiances?

If your employer offers more than the standard 6 weeks @ 90% and then the rest at SMP Lisa, a lot of the time you can't just not go back, or you need to pay some of your maternity back, not sure what your company policy would be though.

Amazingly we get it even if we don't go back!!! The encouragement to go back is that you get a bonus payment equal to one month's salary after you've been back 3 months!!!

ah that's good then, didn't want you doing it then they say you owe them money, happened to someone over on the employment board. Your work are very generous

Gilly thats what happens at my work. i can get extra pay but if i dont go back i have to pay it back. there is an option to have the extra money paid when you return to work so i selected that then if i dont go back i owe them nothing if i do go back i get extra money

i dont see why the tens machine wouldnt work jenjade as its to do with releasing natural endorphins, you get ones specifically for pregnancy though. not sure at what point you can use them in pregnancy though its worth a google i just hired mine from tesco for £27.50 for 4 weeks but if you go overdue they dont charge extra.

somesay not to use it until you are 37 weeks, some say not to use it until labour and others say its fine through out but only on the back, i would ask the proffesionals and see what they say. x

Ladies, do any of you know how redundancy and maternity pay works? My work are making redundancies and I thought my job was safe but they need to get rid of more people so it may be not so safe now!!! I don't plan to go back to work after but won't be telling them that!! What point would I need them to keep me on till to still qualify for maternity pay? they give a really good package with 3 months full pay then SMP for the rest so can't really afford to lose it!!! They don't know I'm PG yet as I'm only 9 weeks(ish). Its putting a real dampner on things as I've been looking forward to telling people after the scan (in 2 weeks) but now we won't be able to as we don't want work to know till we have a better idea what's going on. Can't even tell family as they'll probably mention something on Facebook and then work would find out due to having workmates as friends on there!!
I was made redundant a few weeks ago - I think you had to beemployed at your 25th week to get mat pay. If you're not you can still apply for mat allowance which is same as amp but for the full 39 weeks instead of full pay for the first 12.
    HTH's?
I'm now pretty much unable to walk at all without severe pain when I put weight on my right leg. Could be an interesting night & day tomoro! :(
