Just home from marathon (and horrible) day at the hospital. Waited over an hour to be seen for the consultants clinic, and that was just been taken through to have BP and weight checked by midwife, followed by another 20 minute wait for the consultant. BP gone from 120/70 at booking, to 148/98 today, also have Ketones, leukocites and protein in my wee (all previous wee samples have been clear every time).

Consultant watched me struglle past her to the consulting room, and saw i was struggling, and was actually quite sympathetic- gave me an internal exam/ attempted sweep to see if it was worth looking at induction. OMFG! I know it is different for everyone, so i wouldnt discourage people from having one, but that was the most painful and horrific thing i've ever had done. It turns out that whilst baby is STILL 3/5 engaged, my cervix is and i quote her words " as long and thin as an old carrot" (i feel strangely offended on behalf of my cervix, but at the same time cross with my cervix for letting me down, most bizarre!). I suspect that this is why it blimmin hurt so much, and that if you have a nice short soft one when they try, it wouldn t be too bad.

So i am totally unsuited for induction, and will just have to sit it out for now. She didnt want to commit to any further action, so looks like the BP and wee results will be ignored for now as they dont want to do a C either. She has booked me back in for 2 weeks time, which will be a week after my EDD, in case nothing has happened by then.

She was also worried about the impact of my lack of mobility increasing my risk of thrombosis, so once i had my knickers back on, i was dispatched to the pharmacy (to wait for an hour, Grrrrr) to collect 4 weeks worth of heparin to start injecting myself twice a day, and back to the clinic to wait to have lessons in how to do it- which involved a m/w reading out the instructions from the packet to me, and me reminding her things, like, should i not wash my hands before we begin?
All in all by that point, having been there 4+ hours, i was not in a happy place, queue waddling, hormonal, very pregnant lady with snotty nose, red eyes from crying, sore lady bits and a bruised thigh.. Lord knows what the other people still waiting thought was happening to me!

  • Ohhh Kira sounds dreadful :( Hope baby makes an appearance all on its own, sounds like a really unpleasant thing to go through. Im hoping I dont have to go through anything similar.

Ohh and I feel offended for your 'long thin old carrot' of a cervix too ;)

I was thinking weeks ago about doing the perineal massage thing but have just never got round to it, got 2 weeks to go before due date - anyone think its worth starting now or is it too late? Dont really fancy doing it tbh but will give it a go maybe...

I'm going to start tonight Cloudberry, I'll let you know how I get on  :o

also if anyone can help me, my friends usually club together when babies are born to buy stuff, and have offered to buy my baby bouncer, which is ordered, but they want to know what else I'd like? One of them suggested a swing? But is it a waste of money to have both a swing and a bouncer? What else could I ask for? They have offered to send the cash but I know it'd get wasted on rubbish if I did, so I'd rather not :(

Thanks Gilly and Cloudberry. Not much fun, but over now for today.
Me and my old carrot :D will try and chill out and i'm going to maybe up my EPO quantities and see if that helps soften things up a bit.

Cloudberry- never to late to start with the massage i reckon. Worth a shot at least!

  • Gilly i bought a 2nd hand M&P swing off ebay and then people from work got me a bouncer too - the swing doesnt vibrate or anything so the bouncer may feel different for the baby and it might prefer one to the other?

From work I got some things like - a manicure/grooming kit, a Mothercare toiletries box filled with goodies, swaddle blankets, other blankets, cuddle towel....just trying to think of some more things for you - how about a tummy tub for bathing baby in? maybe ask for a voucher for somewhere instead of the cash then at least you will have to spend it in that particular place? nappy stacker? a sling to carry baby? pram toys? nappy bin and refills? baby toiletries?

Just trying to visualise whats in my babies nursery to give you some ideas :)

I would have thought a swing and a bouncer are a bit similar and unless you have a big house, quite space taking as well!

Have you got an activity mat/gym yet? I like these two and hoping my mum is going to get us one of the two.

  • Thanks Gilly - let me know how it goes LOL re the massage :)

Your right Kira - I may as well give it a go.....contemplating attempting it myself or asking my DH to do it for me....oh the dignity.

I know we've just bought too much tbh I think. We have a wee box (I bought it last night :o ) and loads of toiletries, we have 3 or 4 cuddle towels  a baby bath, sheets (which I only ordered the other day) I might just say to send money and we can go buy a swing. Thing is, we live in a 1 bed apartment, with a combined kitchen/living area, so have no room at all :rotfl: Nappy bin is a good idea, but we can get to the back door/wheely bin, in about 6 steps from the bedroom and about 10 steps (if that) from the living room, so not sure if it's lazy or not?

What a nightmare I'm creating for myself. Was thinking about asking for a changing bag (the one I really want :o ) but it's expensive and may come across as cheeky.

I know... you cant really imagine how ones dignity disappears in pregnancy until you've experienced it!! I'm reduced to begging DH for a foot rub now, to try and get rid of the swelling.
