Hi ladies, just a quick Qu. for anyone who has been booked in for a sweep/had one in the past. Who is it that has decided to give you one, and when? Was it the m/w or a doctor? And at what stage was it discussed and/or booked? Just wondering, cos my m/w never mentioned anything about it to me, despite being v clear she thought i ought to have the baby out asap due to my pain and beans size (and referred me back to the consultant clinic end of this week at the hospital as a result). If the consultant doesnt suggest any action, what with xmas, I'll be well over 40 weeks (nigh on 42) by the time i would next be seeing the m/w, albeit she has said she doesnt want to see me again at all (last appointment was the 38 week one). So if bean hasnt come by herself, i'll be 42 weeks with no arrangements made for anything!
Bit worried that i'm falling between the care cracks as the m.w doesnt know my hospitals system, and vice versa.Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

It all depends on your area I think Kira, some trusts won't offer a sweep until at least at due date. I know in Scotland and N.I this doesn't seem to be the case, but I really don't know about England.
My friend received a sweep at 38/39 weeks in Scotland and she asked for it (due to commitments after the birth, she really wanted him to be out asap, as she wanted to breast feed for as long as possible before going back to uni/work)
I've been told if baby is head down enough I will get a sweep at 36/37, my GP will do it as I'm "shared care"
If I was you I would ask the consultant, explain your pain and say you WANT one, if it helps my cousin is in Essex and wasn't given a sweep until her due date.
On another note, I think I've been having Braxton Hicks tonight, even laying down doesn't seem to be stopping them. Quite painful they are too, been going on for hoursThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -

I cant contemplate the pain if bean hasnt arrived by 42 weeks at the mo, but at least if i knew there were arrangments made in case, it would be something. But with my m/w only doing 3 hours each Tuesday, if i get to past due, and THEN have to wait for an appointment.........
I'm going to press the consultant very hard to make some firm arrangements for sweeps/induction, even if it is in advance, even if i have to cry and have abdabs. Sorry for the TMI, but as i am now unable to get up the stairs to go to the loo during the day, so having to pee in a pot downstairs, and i just cant cope with the pain anymore, and knowing it will just get worse....:(Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

Why do people, anyone not realise how hard it is to be a pregnant woman, noone seems to listen. I'm in such a rant about it tonight!
If they're happy with babies size, and she is engaged enough I can't see why they wouldn't do a sweep, if she isn't ready to come out, she won't come. A sweep won't bring on labour if your body just isn't ready. It's not like induction where if it fails, rates of c sections go up.
I would explain all this to him, no human should be having to do thatHugs.

I had a sweep with DD2 at 6 days past my due date. Midwife just offered it to me! When i had DD3, i was offered one the day b4 my due date, but i refused it. DD2 still didnt come for 4 days after the sweep, so obviously didnt work. I personally didnt like having it, and wouldnt want to have one again. How come you wont be seeing midwife until 42 weeks from 38 weeks?! I thought you were supposed to see someone every 2 weeks at the end?
Had my 30 week app today, all is well, baby is measuring 31 weeks, so only 1 week bigger instead of the 3 weeks last time! Altho that does mean i have only grown 1 cm in 3 weeks?!
Hope everyone is well xxMummy to 3 beautiful GIRLS, 9, 7 and 3,and a handsome lil BOY 03.03.12 :T

My 38 week was last tuesday, i would be due my 40w on the 27th, but thats a xmas bank holiday so surgery is closed, and by the following tuesday, i'll be 41+. Plus the m/w specifically said she doesnt want to see me anymore unless it is a post birth visit. I guess she is assuming that the consultant who i am now seeing this fri, will give in and do something so i wont need to book in for 42.Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

Gilly - exact same happened with me and CityLink. Went on the website and it showed as a failed delivery and said they had put a card through the door. I was in all day and there was no knock and no card. Dont think they made it within 10 miles of me but just put that to cover their back. Lying sods!!DS1 born June 2000

CityLink are useless, quite often they say 'failed delivery', what they mean is 'i've not delivered all my parcels and its time to knock off'Little Person Number 4 Due March 2012
