I got told at antenatal class that locally the policy is to get you out of hospital, presuming everything has gone okay, in 6-7 hours. Scared some of the people there but I want to get out as soon as possible. If there's any need to stay for me or dd I will obv, but rather get home and get started on normality (?!).
We've not told names either. We had the perfect boys name we both agreed on and then got told it was a girl. Now agreed on one of those, although I would happily lose a middle name that DH has set his heart on! Still, I like her first name and I'm prepared to run to three first names to get the other (family) name in.
I'm another 'oldie' at 36. Makes me feel much better that there's a few of us at that end of the scale, although the midwives haven't seemed to fussed and said mums don't count as older until after 40.:heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls

My hospital likes you to stay at least one night, and if it's a straightforward birth with no complications then they have a 'patient hotel' attached to the maternity unit where you can stay. Partner then gets to stay with you and baby too. If you have to stay in on the ward then partner can't stay. I think they like you to be comfortable with bfeeding, if that's what you're doing, and for baby to have fed a couple of times. The midwife on Saturday said that she has known people to go straight home from the labour suite, so I guess if you want to go and there's no problems then they can't stop you.
Looks like I am now, unofficially at least, on maternity leave! I went to see the midwife again this afternoon as I'd had a cracking headache all morning that paracetamol wasn't really helping with. She took my blood pressure again and it's still quite high, although the second reading was lower, and I'm signed off for the week. I was going to talk to my manager today anyway about finishing earlier than the 30th, but she wasn't in today, but I think I'll be taking my holiday from next Monday, then mat leave will officially start on the 11th January. I need to send our team's assistant manager an email confirming what I want to do, and they'll get it sorted. There's still a few things people wanted from me, work-wise, before I finished so might still have to send the odd email, and I may have to go in briefly to send a couple of spreadsheets that I've got saved on my personal computer drive rather than our team shared one but apart from that... I think I'm done! How on earth am I going to fill my days?!:j Debt Free 27.07.2011!! :j0 -

Yeah my midwife hasn't mentioned anything about my age either, I think its become more common for ladies to have babies later in life:) or is it because they're not allowed to be ageist? I think as long as you're healthy it doesn't matter what your age is:)0 -
well im suffering so far......my back and pelvic hurt, so ive gone to buy a v pillow and ahhhhhhh its so comfy lol im going to hide it from my fiance as he says he wanted me to buy him one as well lol.............but i think i deserve it :T.
My baby boy is down so low at the moment i can feel his head is way down in my pelvic, i hope he is going to be on time and now like his older brother who was 2 weeks late and weighed 9lbs 8 , im 5ft9 athletic figure so we didnt expect that lol
Im being consultant led to make sure baby is not growing as much as his older brother did so back in jan for a glucose test to check my sugar levels.
when i had ds1 i stayed in for 2 nights including the night i had him, as i didnt want to be bombarded with visitors least at hospital visiting hours had to be met, when i got home the rush had already taken place so we felt relaxed when we got home, may do similar if im happy too.Ds2 born 3/4/12 8lbs 8.5:j
Ds1 born 28/4/07 9lb 8 :j

Ooooh, now I'm cross. Just had the hospital on the phone about the iron IV, and told them I didn't think I needed it. They tried to convince me I'm more likely to bleed if I don't have it, and more likely to have problems if I did bleed, as I would be 'compromised'. For &^%s sake, my iron is only 10.1! Still told them no.0

dont let them bully you aimless hun its there job to inform you of the risks, not pressure you.x0

Thanks, I'm certainly not rushing over there just because they try to scare me. Should've asked her the relative risks of PPH compared to me having an allergic reaction to the IV, see if she could quote me any figures.0

Just a quick note to say that our daughter was born on Friday morning and weighed in at 7lbs 11 oz and we are both massively smitten. Labour was an experience to put it mildly and I am looking forward to forgetting the experience and getting on with being a new mummy. Must say my DH was absolutley amazing and please pack lots of snacks for them just in case its not quick and easy!
Hope everyone is well and will do my best to read back and catch up. Good luck to all and mummy cuddles are amazing.
